This might be some kind of bug on CCPs side. Asking for character name is security feature to make sure you really own the account, but of course that should not be asked on new accounts which don't have any character at all.

After quick googling it seems to be a bug in NVIDIA graphic drivers. Not specific to EVE Online. I'm not sure if NVIDIA has fixed it yet, try googling for e.g. "pink screen nvidia" or something like that. And definitely update drivers.

When I was doing Exploration tutorial, there was occasionally training sites which were empty. Just find new one. Sites are usually near celestials like planets, so you can start by using 4 or 8 AU range at each planet.
