Hiya Peeps,
So i got done over for the first time this morning, I was in a brutix on my way to pick up some books and I got jumped at a gate, I was powerless... I couldent move or fire back... just had to sit there and die...
so now i have the need to do some killing of my own!
I had a warp stable on board and that did nothing for me and as for the targetting issue, I could not target any one of them.... so what did i need on board to counter this attack? what ideas can you pass on to make this situation not happen again? (plus i still have a load of books in this same system so need to go back!)

Go in a fast, small ship, like a frigate. Fit it with warp core stabs. Don't try to fight back, only try to run.
Big is not beautiful, necessarily, in this game. You're better off in a small ship you can handle reasonably than in a big ship you barely can climb into. --- Why are you reading my sig? Did you expect something of sigs? |

Check your character sheet for kill rights. You now have rights to freely attack some of these guys even when you meet them in highsec, or within range of sentry guns in lowsec. Better yet, they will not see any indication that you have the freedom to attack them - they are red flashy to you, but you are not red flashy to them.
Take advantage of this to camp and murder them in highsec. When they undock from a station, or jump back thru the highsec gate, even in a fleet, you can attack one at a time and the others can't help the one you're targeting.

Judging by his post trying to use killrights to get revenge is more likely to get him shot down, again.
Best thing to realize is that you're not yet a solo-hunter. In the world of predators and prey you're still just prey when you're on your own. You're not the king of the jungle, you're at best third tier. That means that you have to team up with people to fight. Or you have to evade. Battlecruisers are not made for evasive action, fly a frigate or a shipclass based on the frigate (such as interceptor or covert ops). Anything bigger means you'll get owned at every gatecamp you run into.
P.S: What you ran into on that gate was a generic low-sec gatecamp. 3-5 ships (sometimes more), including at least one fast locking heavy tackler (battlecruiser or Heavy Interdictor with plenty of sensorboosters) and one Falcon rigged for pirate duty (with ship modifications increasing its effective range so that it can outrange the gateguns). Learn to either avoid them entirely, run them with a frigate/blockaderunner/force recon or bring friends. A lot of friends (since your friends are likely to be less skilled than the average pirate). ______________________________________________ -My respect can not be won, only lost. If you need to pickup something small in low-sec, it's best to setup a frigate with nanofibers, so that you are maneuverable enough to warp very quickly after you decloak. It might be a good idea to warp towards something you're ship is already pointing at, instead of warping immediately to your destination which may be directly behind you.
Stabs are not really useful anymore -- there are enough people using warp scramblers (two points) and Heavy Interdictors (infinite point) that you are better off setting your ship up for maneuverability. A Brutix is an excellent combat ship, but not really a good choice if you are just learning or picking things up.
As far as targeting goes, you were probably jammed. You can fit an ECCM (appropriate to your race), but you will probably still be jammed from time to time.
If you jump into lowsec and see a camp, your best option is to not fight back and reapproach the gate and jump, if you are not fast enough to simply escape point range.

1. Use a small fast ship 2. Train for cloak 3. Don't got to lowsec to buy stuff 4. Go with friends 5. Train for cloak 6 Everyone but everyone gets ganked at a gate at some point 7. It will make you think next time, so lesson learned 8. Train for cloak

/me goes to low-sec and providence to buy stuff all the time. Of course I haven't been caught since the days that Einheirjar Rising spent their times watching the Kari pipe. ______________________________________________ -My respect can not be won, only lost. the only advise to give is
get a t2 cloak on a ship that can use it..
to get back at them get 3 X the figthing ships + alt scout unless you pay Merc's..
if your luck to catch 1 in high sec you could be luckly to have a warp scam + webber fitted on a figther ship go for it. but be ready for his mates to come and help him..

Best way to win: Buy loads of isk, officer mods, put them on an underskilled ship, have it explode, when the pirates loot you tell them its a present if they promise not to shoot you again.
Or you could always say "hey wait ill pay" in local, Pirates prefer booty to killboard points, and almost always will say yes if you offer a decent ransom. Ransoms come at around the cost of your base ship, usually, an underskilled BC would prolly cost you 25mil to pay to get out alive. Think of it this way: they kill you, they make money selling T1 mods. They let you free, they get paid and have a chance catching you when you try to leave the system. You offer a crap ransom, they'll take the money THEN shoot you because you were a cheap stingy bastard, Suffer not the insufferable to live. |

This guy know what he's talking about. The reason I know is because CVA lose more ships to gate camps then anyone else in the game.

well the moral of the story is dont do 2 jumps into low sec and think your not gonna get noticed as you pass through the home system of a pirate low sec alliance
and the gang was only a sacrilege, absolution and a falcon...so not a big gang ---History is written by the Victors, but i dont know anyone called victor--- |
