1. What was taken? 2. Why was it Fun? 3. Can it ever come back? 4. Whatever else you would like to rant about!

I say bring back the super old-school probe method with the need for bookmarks and proper triangulation. Back in those days probing was an art that required bookmarks of the system before you could even start!
Honestly was some of the most fun i EVER had in eve Killing was unsuspecting low sec mission runners with probes. Since it was such a rare talent they had no idea you could "find them in thier missions!!!" OMG, the things they used to say, lol!
Honestly was some of the most fun i EVER had in eve. Then they changed probes to gh3y button mashing nonsense. Now that anyone can do it everyone is always on the lookout. The fun stuff always gets nerfed. Sigh.

1. Another fun activity - Proper Probing. 2. The Profit/Bear Tears 3. Sigh. I don't see how. 4. Probing system is coming back. Course you don't have to warp around anymore, still have to triangulate though...
It'l take a little more skill than button mashing anyways.

Well, if they make it more difficult then in traditional CCP "balancing" fashion they should make it easier to find dead space gates and missions for the people that master the method. --->Movie: + Trillion damage to CareBear community |

Edited by: Zeba on 16/02/2009 17:30:49 Have you perchance tested out the new probe mechanics on the test server? No bookmarks needed but you still need to position your probes to get the best results.
As for what was fun that I miss were the old static low sec plexs. Many a fun battle was fought over the right to run them and eloaborate bait and gank plans abounded. Pirates, carebears and gankers all were to be found in the better low sec 5/10 plexs and the system one was in usually had a small competetive population. After they were removed everyone left and all the fun evaporated. Hell we even had lots of epic whine threads about it on the forums(though that was moastly about the static 10/10 plex and this one particular drone plex in a certain system)then *poof* it was all moved to exploration. Yeah I can and still do find them but with no competition its just not fun.
Bring back ctatic plex plz. Remove the good salvage and deadspace stuff if you have to ccp but at least make it a nice isk maker from npc bounties to give a reason to fight over it.

Heh, you are sooo going to love the new probe mechanics and the mission runners are going to cry rivers. There are also a few other tricks the new system allows that are going to make pvp quite a bit moar interesting. Also ccp have promised max probe skill will be rewarded.
Yay! Got meh sig back! ♥ Weatherman |

This is basically the best idea for reviving low sec. Carebears could make lots of isk and that would attract them and the pirates could kill the carebears or farm the plexes and burn the isk on suicide ganking. Everybody wins

Oh tell me about it. Those 5/10 drone plexs were all over the damn universe and people always wanted to run them. The main prob with them was people would farm them straight after DT I think.
I had so many fights at the gates to those *sniff*

what makes you think grief play, intentionally ruining the fun of others, is something CCP would want to encourage and facilitate? it's not very smart to do that bussinesswise, just look at the econ blogs...

Personally I hope they ease the difficulty level on probings. I never really never got the hang of it, and I know many others too have the same problem. Heck, for my part CCP seems to be bringing in 2500 new systems, with the posibillity of me never setting a foot there. Not because I dont want to (I DO!!) but because I cant find the entrance!
Guess I will have to work on my probings..

I miss the multi burners and micros. Not in the PvP aspect, but just to fool around with. I had a ferox that would do 7500m/s. In a straight line. It would try to turn and just sorta skid sideways through space.

my #1 grief, back in beta, the glowy roids, man, they were soo pretty, and then, when warped into a belt, and you saw that orange arkanor glow somewhere in, your heart skipped a beat, JACKPOT!!
it got removed because people complained it made finding the good ores too easy then we got tools to find them, like the scanner modules, and overview? in the end, what was the point of this?
#2, unpredictable mining. anyone else wish you couldnt look at a system on the map, and say, ah, gallente space, 0.6 sec level, that's veldspar scordite plagioclase and omber..
#3, finding npc pirates somewhere other then asteroid belts, i think this one also was taken out in the beta, but even though i lost a lot of ships to them back then, i still miss occationally warping to station, and... CRUD!! blood raider's camping the station! *hauler goes poof* although warp to 0 made that a little pointless now i guess..
#4, concord not reliably pwning everything, i loved actually not being instantly owned because i smartbombed my friends drone.. stupid high sec pirates!
#5, loot from cans at 10km or about there nerfed in beta because of loot theft.. ok, it made loot theft really really easy, but i still often wish i didnt need to move right up to every can after killing rats, looting dosnt need to be quite this dull...
#6, drone control AMOUNT bonuses, i really really miss my 15 drones out at once.. removed because of lag.. poo
#7, the maulus-helios, damnit, the new one is really really ugly! i loved flying the old one because it just looked cool, with the new one, i'm wishing that the cloak would make it completely vanish for me, as well as everyone else
and last but not least, MINES! i loved fooling around with mines, ok, fine, the damage they did was so crap that it was actually a challenge to kill a frigate with mines, but the idea was great, and i also really loved how they arranged themselves neatly into grids, forming nice mine fields without any real effort from me i found the most useful thing they did was bump small ships around, making interceptor-ish manouvers really hard(although we didnt really have interceptors back then)
why was it removed? i'm not really sure TBH, maybe it was because people used them to lag warp entry points to hell for completely risk free piracy? ooh, that worked, within hours they found new crap to make lag with...
if it was because of that, that got fixed another way, can we have mines back now? and if it's not too much trouble, having them do more then 30dmg each would be nice as well
--- return the mines!

really old school jamming, before they came up this idea that chance based jamming was a "nerf" right...
But with out a doubt, oversized AB's in frigates, combined with the ability to completely out run heavy missiles, and pre-HP boost which made it nearly impossible for a frig to solo larger ships other than that of brain dead school children.

I miss old-school frieghter runs.
Before the days of jump-frieghters and jump bridges moving a loaded frieghter from deep 0.0 to empire and back again was a major group effort requiring multiple scouts and combat vessles running escort. A good team would consist of anywhere from 6 to 12 scouts and escorts.

I'm not sure you quite understand any of the words you are using, like "grief play", "facilitate" or "businesswise". I suggest reading some books.
I miss kick out stations and regional gates that you could actually tackle an enemy and get a fight on. --

Yeah, I did one of those with my Freighter all the way to Curse. ...then I stopped playing EVE for like 6 months and the corp had gone inactive
Soo I had to get a Charon full of everything I owned all the way back to Hi-sec by myself. Prob the tensest thing I've done...

I've been seeing a lot more rats at gates and occasionally stations since QR was released, but yes, warp to zero makes that pointless.
