I thought the new box would have the 1GB patch included to stop brand new players buying the game, seeing a 1GB patch and thinking "cba"...
If it does include the patch how is that gonna work four days before server side launch?

Edited by: Destination SkillQueue on 16/02/2009 17:44:19 If my memory still works correctly the box has QR and people have to download the 1GB patch. Nothing new in todays MMO world.

Amazon UK preorder. The box will be released world-wide.
Will there be an actual DVD of the client in there? There isn't a scrap of evidence on SiSi that anything is even remotely ready yet, and Atari must be chomping on the bit to press the DVD.
There is an actual DVD in the box. It is the EVE Online: Quantum Rise client.
The Windows DVD client is the Premium client, an intermediate version between QR 1.0.4 and QR 1.0.5. It will autopatch to EVE Online: Apocrypha in the same manner as the current QR 1.0.5 client.
The Mac DVD client is a special Classic client with Premium content to reduce the autopatching size, a special intermediate version between QR 1.0.4 and QR 1.0.5. It will autopatch to EVE Online: Apocrypha using the same method as the current QR 1.0.5 client but the autopatch will be a smaller download.
Why the Quantum Rise client you may ask? There is significant lead time for pressing DVDs and the gold master was delivered to Atari on 15 Jan. We are still working on Apocrypha but it is coming soon to SiSi.

People won't care. If you buy any of the valve games now, in box form, there are massive patches needed before steam will let you play it. Nearly every single game with an on-line multiplayer part requires patching to the latest version before you can play, in most cases it is large patches.
To anyone who plays online, downloading large patches is part of life, and so they won't care.
To someone who hasn't played online before they need to get used to large patches or they can sit in the dark ages.
End of.

From what I've seen "Apochribba" will hit the server on March 10th, while the box set will hit stores March 12th.

Not to mention, if you ever bought any MMO in a box it has always been like this.
