so i heard some friends of mine talk about this alchemy thing where high abundance moon mins could be all turned into dysprosium and such - is this coming with the new expansion? or will it be introduced at a later date?

Already in game and pretty much totally useless. The needed materials and more importantly the TIME it takes is making sure that Alchemy as it is now is never a cost effective alternative for producing the high end materials.

while it is not practical for use in further reactions, simply doing alchemy and then selling the output can be equally or more profitable than most other simple reactions. to make much more profit than 10 mill per day on any simple reaction, you pretty much have to buy promethium or dysprosium, which can be very expensive.
complex reactions, on the other hand, are generally going to be more profitable than simple ones, especially if you buy the raw materials and do all the simple reactions too. but doing all those reactions will certainly require several POS towers, especially the high-end complex reactions like ferrogel.
~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~ Take away the risk and it would make flying around in space utterly pointless.
Last time I checked the costs for doing Alchemy on r64 stuff it came to the point where the final produce was costing the same (within a 1% margin) that the real stuff costs. Add to that the fact that it takes insanely longer to produce something through alchemy and it's a road where you'll only lose isk, not gain it.
Breakeven point now is: cost of dysprosium = 20x cost of Cadmium + 0.19x POS fuel hourly cost + whatever you value your time at
I think the point is its there for people who want a POS but the only untaken local moons are crappy minerals. The ratio could probably use a little tweaking though, since T2 demand goes up every time we get a new player but the number of disp etc. moons is basically fixed. _________________ [IMAGE REMOVED] -- aka Cpt Bogus -- Is that my torped sig cloaking your base?
with current Jita prices, doing alchemy to make ferrofluid can earn around 300 mill profit per month (ignoring pos fuel costs). the price of ferrofluid would have to tank below ( 10 x cadmium + hafnium / 2 ) before it would break even (again ignoring pos fuel). right now it sells for 90k/unit (x10 = 900k) and the cost of raw materials per cycle is only around 500k. ~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~ Take away the risk and it would make flying around in space utterly pointless.
