Hello,
Need some help here, I just put together a new computer (my first time building one) and everything seems to have gone just peachy. Now a week later I have tried installing and running EVE but it seems it makes some sort of squealing noise (which is coming from inside the case) whenever I try running the game. It's not bad at the login screen, very faint actually. At the character selection screen its pretty noticeable though and inside the game (stations, out in space) it's not as bad as the character selection screen but still noticeable. I can hear it over the fans.
I never noticed it play the dawn of war 2 beta but I had some sounds going so I couldn't tell. Installing a game now to see if it does the same effect, but I'm afraid to run EVE now :P Any help would be very appreciated....

I had this issue, what I found was that the system was overheating, cleaning it out seemed to do the trick, as to the specific cause, I think it may have been the processor, so cleaning of the thermal paste and reapplying the silver paste is a must. ------

also I should note, the second I click away from the eve window, alt tab or anything it goes away.

It's likely that it's your GPU that's heating up, not your CPU.
Try setting "Present Interval" to "Interval One" in the advanced graphical options within Eve, see if that helps. ===================================== It smells of spoon! ===================================== |

My gpu temp is actually quite low, but oddly enough it *seems* to have helped. Though I can say for certain cause now i have a squealing noise in my head! (its not my comp cause i turned off my comp and went outside for a walk and its still here :|) So I'm gonna just go out for a bit, calm down and not stress out over something being wrong with my computer and hopefully itll help when I get back ><

Chances are that the fan on your graphics card needs some oil or just replacement. As EVE puts heat on the card, the fan turns higher and if it's old or just a Monday piece it'll act up. |

Edited by: Daelorn on 19/02/2009 18:12:56 Sounds like capacitor squeal to me, many new cards do it.
Happens when you're playing a game and getting really high FPS (Character selection screen will have the highest FPS, you can check it turn off VSync and press ctrl+f and tell us your FPS), so you can turn on VSync and it should stop. Also heard that adjusting the shaders can stop it too, which works since my GTX 280 will only squeal when its overclocked.
Also, it doesn't hurt the card any. |

My suggestion does the same thing as enabling V-Synch but is Eve-specific - also easier for non-technical people and works regardless of your GPU/Driver version. |

Your computer is just squeeling with glee at the fact that your running such a superb piece of software on it. Its so happy that you are making good use of it, it thought it would show its appreciation!

Got another PSU you can try?
Some Squeal when under load, but when idling they won't make any other noise.
Had this with an OCZ PSU, did the whining thing - RMA'd it, came back... No more whine.
