Last night I encountered some new players complaining about the lack of rocks in their STARTING systems, so I decided to take a look and found alot of Indies mining all the Pyrox and Plag. And all that was left was Veldspar, I checked all belts and there was nothing else to mine for the new players, only Veldspar.
I heard those same mass miners complain that there were no asteroid respawns yesterday. I found some decent ore, but the mass miners won't get their locations from me.
New players looking for good ore, message me and I will try to locate some good rocks for you and if there are pirates then I will do my best to protect you in my new Tristan while you mine away to earn enough for a Imicus or better :-)
Sadly I don't have much playing time but when I'm logged in I am always willing to help new players.
So if you also fall victim to the mass mining, millions of ISK making people then give me a shout when you see me online and I will locate you some nice rocks to mine. ------------------------------------------------ CCP please fix your patch so I can play with my corpmates again soon. |

Massminers are no problem if CCP reset the belts once or twice more than they do currently. __________________________

I'm beginning to wonder if we're seeing the results of either a bug or a change by CCP regarding what ore appears in what systems. I've been in Gisleres for a few days now and no longer see any Omber, even right after reset. |

Even though some could argue that CCP should just spawn some more roids, it's still a nice gesture you're making, DJvGalen.
We should all do our outmost to support new players, giving them a chance to get as hooked on this game as the rest of us :)
In the end it'll make the game so much better if the diversity of players is kept at a maximum.

Exactly the reason why I mine a little bit off the beaten path...
Goes a bit slower because I have to carry around my little nasty pets instead of my little moles, but the additional rat bounty and loot is a nice feature.
And just mining gets a bit boring if I don't get to play around a little ;)
Just because we are paranoid, doesn't mean you're not out to get us. |

There are plenty of rocks. Vaere/Vendor has rocks. And plenty of them. This is 4 hops out of the starting sectors of Citsu. Some of it is .8 space but there are plenty of miners and this keeps the pirates away.
Me and my little boat only pull dust off those fields while I watch others running 8k of omber every 20 minutes...its all good I finally have a drone to speed things up.

To some extent I do feel that the new folks kinda get it in the rear. The whole point of a newb system is a place for them to mine and get a feel for the game. When you have indys come in and total strip mine the system it ruins it. Why the hell should the new player be forced to go somewhere else.. Have the god damn indy move. They have more slots and can better protect themselves in other systems. Instead they just want to afk mine at the new players expense.
However there are ways to get the indies to leave (although can't be done by a total new player). Biggest problem with indies... they have VERY low sensor strength. From the ones I have looked at they only have 3 in their particular sensor field. So if you are having trouble with caldari indies in your belts just strap on a gravimetric jammer. A single basic model will be more then enough to jam there targets. This is a great way to distrupt afk miners since you only need to break their targeting and not sustain the jamming.

I was just though my starting system. There are tons of rock, so whats the big deal. There is no shame in mining scordite if you just got your pilots license...2hops out there is plenty of omber

First off, I think it's great that people want to help out newbies, I've spent a large amount of time explaining all kinds of things in order to help someone out. Anything to get someone off to a better start.
I think it's wrong, however, to classify the Cist belts as newbie only just because that's where newbies start. I think it's equally wrong to expect indies to afk mine somewhere other than a 1.0 system like Cist. But that's your perogative, so feel free to target jam my indy next time you see it parked in Cist. Just hope I actually am afk mining as I'll be sure to watch for you in low sec systems when I'm not, and I probably won't be in my indy :)
The other reason I don't think afk mining in Cist is an issue is this: As a newbie I mined in Gisleres because you could do so in a starter ship with starter weapons and a starter shield booster and get Omber for almost no risk. How is this giving newbies the shaft? Or did you mean the unimaginative newbie that can't think for themself?
People need to remember that MMORPGs evolve, especially EVE, and even more so since it's brand new and everything is changing at such a fast pace. I think a lot of posts on the forums are due to people being upset because their "great idea" was figured about by 1000 other people and now they have to come up with another one :) CCP's job isn't to enforce that nothing changes in EVE. I'm not saying anyone in this thread was implying so and I'm not singling any of you out, so don't feel like I'm picking on you personally. This is just something I've noticed throughout a lot of the threads I've read and felt like commenting on it.
So with that said, I'll offer a few things.
Advice to newbie miners:
This is the same advice I offer to any newbie that asks where they should mine. This is the same advice I've seen many other players give as well. Find a .8 or .9 and look for omber. Before long they too can have an iteron in Cist strip mining in 0 gravity, and it'll be faster than if they had stayed in Cist trying to make their million off lesser 'roids.
Concerning afk mining:
If it's an exploit I'm sure it'll be nerfed, but I don't think it is. Imagine a lazy space miner that wants to set up a ship and then take a nap, where would he go? Somewhere there's pirates? Or somewhere he can gain income for no risk while sleeping?
Advice to people that are upset because afk mining is leaving only veldspar in Cist's belts:
Mine veldspar. It's still better than nothing.

someone has to mine the veldspar anyway
i mean, it shouldn't be only there to make a roid field still look like a roid field after all the other stuff is gone... --
oh my god! it's an Ubersquid

I've had days where I go to mine and everything but the Veldspar is gone. I've had days where entire belts themselves are gone!
These have been just some of my mining experiences in EVE since I first started. It seems survival of the fittest isn't just the rule in warfare capability but in resource production as well. I think we'll always have pilots in better ships with better equipment making things tougher for the lesser pilots. That makes the lesser pilots work even harder to get where they want to be, and most likely just as ruthless in pursuit of their goals if not more so.
Personally, I tend to favor team mining. AFK mining in an Indy seems to defeat the purpose of a multi-player game. I can park my frigate and launch my drones, mine and jettison and have my associate(s) in their Indies pick up the ore for transport. Three or four frigates can mine a lot with Indy support. I've also found a nice place to mine where the security rating isn't too bad and the roids are plentiful. We all get by. :)
Q. Gopher __________ I know...it's only ROCK and roll, but I like it!! |

I like flying CAP for my corp. Mining just doesn't seem to float my boat at all, and flying CAP for the miners in .3 spcae gives me some fun. They get to mine in relative safety, I get to blow up some rats, and we both contribute to the corporate building programs. How?
Well, they mine Kernite to get the mex that we need to build stuff and iso for cahs, I recycle the loot I find to get pyr, trit and nox. Recycling also gives me zydrine fairy regularly, and megacyte on occasion - enough to keep our frigate production going without having to make runs into 0.0 boonie space.
It'd be different if we had a base out there in the wilds, and a cruiser or two for CAP. But at the moment we're a frigate fest, so we get by as we can.

I think AFK mining is fine ù though I do think that out of courtesy to the new players, the indies should at least jump ONE system away. Leave the starting systems to the new players to learn the game with; the indies can do just as well in the hundred other identical systems.
