For the last month or so i have een killing NPC pirates and doing secuirty agen missions. Mainly this has been for the isk but as a bonus i was also hoping to get my sec status up from my 0.0 Now every so often i check my security profile and noticed that i was gaining between 0.001% to 0.05% security increase per kill. i didnt pay much attention to this until i realised that 0.05% x 0.0 = 0.0
Now i realise there must be something im missing here. what good is the percentage increase if i have no standing to multiply? is there agent mission im reqiuired to perform in order to get my initial sec status up before NPC hunting? or is the percentage adjustment meaningless and there is another increase not listed that i am getting per kill.
Any clarification would be much apprecaited.

It goes up very slowly at first, but lately I've increased my Sec status from 0.3 to 0.7 in 2 or 3 days shooting NPC BS's.

i think your clarification lies in the fact that it's not a multiplier, it's an additive. you add that increase to your current status. so .05 * 100 would be 5. but you're probably not increasing by .05. remember .05% is .0005, too.

It operates similarly to your agent missions. Look on your char sheet and click on standings, right-click one of the corps you are doing missions for and look at transactions. You'll see a bunch of .xxx%
Same thing goes for killing NPCs and sec status. Since its based on the scale (10 being the best) it slows down as you get higher until gains are nearly unpercieveable and 10 is impossible to achieve.
Killing NPC battleships you can get .2 to .4 per night of about 3-4 hours.

You can train Fast Talk skill. If you train it up to lvl5, your security status should be at 2.0

but you do see the problem do you not?
example: change = 0.0056% (Security Status Gain) per NPC kill my rating appears to be increased by a percentage of my current standing. However my current standing on my profile is 0.0 therefore a percentage increase of that figure will still be 0.0
Ive noted the fast talk skill comment and i plan to get that now in hopes it might make a difference.
Now heres a thought. if i had a negative security status and i kill NPC rats to try and clear it wont my gain will be still a percentage based on that negative number and therefore just increase my negative status? instead of reducing it?

The sec. status on your charsheet is rounded down. Right click on yourself in the corp chat window, select member details. This shows your sec. status to quite a lot of decimal places.
Note that update of that seems to be a bit lagged, maybe 20-30 minutes ish.

If its a % increase based on your old sec status wouldn't therefore:
If you have a negative security status any gains would actually lower your sec status (as a -# multiplied by a +# = -#) and if you have a negative security status and performed naughty actions you actually gain security status? So if you're bad you should do more bad things to become good???

People keep saying they have raised sec rate really fast. I don't believe it. I went negative around Christmas a few days before Castor and have gained a WHOPPIING 0.2 increase since then. I have been in 0.0 hunting BS's and spent time chaining cruisers and frigs before that got nerfed. The whole sec rate increase is screwed up.
No not really ranting, just stating my point of view. It hasn't bothered my game play any and I have had some fun scaring noobs when I show up flashing red. Heh.

Actually, like all standings etc in the game the percentages work in reverse.
Therefore, when you get a 0.005% increase @ 0.0 sec status / standing - it is an increase of 0.005% of the difference between your current standing and max standing.
Example:
Sec Status : 0.0 Max Sec Status : 10.00 Increase : 1.0%
New Sec Status = (10.00 - 0.0) * 0.01 = 0.1 Sec Status Increase
Sec Status : 5.0 Max Sec Status : 10.00 Increase : 1.0%
New Sec Status = (10.00 - 5.0) * 0.01 = 0.05 Sec Status Increase
Using this reverse-formula means that gains get more difficult, the high your standing / sec status is. Therefore its easier to gain sec status / standing at the lower levels and impossible (not taking into account the figure getting rounded up) to reach a sec status of 10.00.

Quote: Sec Status : 0.0 Max Sec Status : 10.00 Increase : 1.0%
New Sec Status = (10.00 - 0.0) * 0.01 = 0.1 Sec Status Increase
If you have fast talk you get a higher sec. status gain (5% per level?), so the above example with fast talk level 4 would gain you 0.12 instead of 0.1

I went from -1.3 to 0.0 in 1 - 1.5 months after doing lots of npc hunting (0.0). In less than 2 week ago i had 0.0, today i have 1.0.
I got fast talk lvl4.
