Edited by: Lara Gosta on 21/02/2009 13:11:40 Hello.
I don't like people complaining about the sp loss with t3 ships. I'm not the one who will use them, but i like the idea of having an elite category. When i joined eve, i remember that t2 was the elite, i had respect for t2 pilots and went carefully on them. And i was all like "oh it will be cool when i'll be able to get one too".
Then t2 become almost a must.
So thinking about everyone going to fly t3 is just bad, but i can understand people who cry, becouse everyone would love to fly one. But, everyone would love to drive a Ferrari also, no? Unfortunatly not everyone can, and if everyone could, that would not be anything special anymore.
If the few got something, it's cool and precious, if everyone get it, it's just normal.
That said, i like the concept, even though i will not use T3 sadly, but: who will be the elite?
In eve everything is just a metter of time (skills) and ISKs.
So what will make the difference? Having a lot of alts to make money? I think yes, it's what you need to buy capital ships and the most expensive stuff in eve: i simply can't, becouse i only got 1 character and can't afford all the shiny things. "but you loose sp, not just isks" you can say, and you are right, but having a lot of ISKs, allow you to buy +5 implants ;)
So: is this the elite? Having alts? Macro ratting, macro mining, macro whatever?
Just some pacific thoughts.
/me waits for more opinions to come :)

Tech 3 ships are combat orintated.
Becuase of the skill loss and todays combat way abouts I doubt anyone would love to lose it in pvp even for rank 1 skill loss.
The availability of tech 3 stuff seems to high enough to warrent a large supply of the materials, the complexity of making them would drive prices up but ultimately I think it will come to over supply and over cost to try to sell tech 3 cruisers.

I think it's nice. A small handful of daring mavericks flying exotic machinery - it sounds dangerous. Those pilots are dangerous.
The stakes will be high, but the thrills will be unmatched.

Sorry, I read this and I think about the romanticized BS of World War I and the 'Knights of the Air' and how it compares to the ugly truth. What I'm seeing of T3 isn't daring mavericks in exotic machinery, but insane fools flying overpriced gimmicks that just BEG for a gank, or careful conservative players with a delicate, expensive toy they only bring out when they're sure no one will mess it up.
Maybe I'm wrong, time will tell. I hope T3 evolves into a more widespread game mechanic that becomes available in other ship classes, but if this launch of it does poorly, I fear it will go the way of those daring young men and their flying machines: down in flames from a horrible death in a pointless and costly war.

Your "concerns" are a direct copy of the concerns people had in 2004 regarding prices on tech 2 ships and their performance compared to a fully insured tech 1 battleship.
Btw. "Elite" simply means those who put an effort into it. Anybody can get a tech 3 ship if they work for it. ---------------- Mr. Science & Trade Institute

Not sure if I will be using T3 either tbh. With the knowledge my base skills for flying T3 will be constantly at level 1, plus the knowledge of having to constantly set of time to get it back to level 1 in combination with a high price makes these ships I cant afford to fly. Not just from a point of ISK but the combination of not having the best requirement of chance of survial (higher level of skills), but also constant cost in SP in addition to a constant high sum of money.
The sad thing is I am not that much looking forward to T3. And the only reason this will be the best expansion ever anyway, is because of all the other stuff coming with it. Like wormholespace (2500 new systems) and save/load ship fittings etc.

You are just dumb, if u train those skills too much and lose them partly everytime you lose the t3 ship. It will hurt you on the long run, because all the other skills are still more vital for playing in the long run.
And if it means, that T3 ships will make all the other abadonned, well then its bye bye eve, because then the basics of eve are totally thrown out and we get into some action game, where nobody is waiting for,

Heh tech3 is for the stylish and the bold. I'll be flying them!
Realistically I lose an average of 1-2 ships a week in pvp - worst case scenario thats 1-2 days lost out of the week to replace the skill points (assuming you don't go silly and go to 5)
Sure, tech3 ships won't be great for 0.0 grindfests where you lose multiple ships an evening - but in empire or lowsec pvp where individual skill counts for something they will be extremely sexy ships to fly.

Maybe so, but they didn't cause SP loss. Like I say, I hope I'm wrong and it becomes the next step mechanic and spreads to at least the Battleship and Frigate classes and hopefully the Destroyer and Battlecruiser classes too. If they can keep it viable in the face of the SP loss, the T3 Battleships will at least make potentially awesome PvE solopwnmobiles.
Or what would really get nuts is combining T2 classes with T3. Mmm...powercreepy goodness...

Then you will have a fantastic time with the T3, in knowledge that this time will not only the content of your wallet die, but also a part of you: the skills!
Me the wimp; the one who thinks more about his wallet (greedy as hell and reasonably broke too) and my persona (skills!) will most likely avoid it as a plague. it will be awefully expensive (hurt wallets badly) and skill losses (my time is valuable) will most likely make me wimp out.
Thankfully there are lots of other shiny things coming with this expansion, so I will find pleasures in Wormholes (2500 new systems!!!!) and not to mentioned the very long awaited load/save ship settings!
So I still love CCP very much!

If you look on the SHC threads discussing all this, you will find a very detailed assesment of likely costs; of course there's a lot of unknowns but it seems that reasonable price for a well-fitted T3 ship will be close to a billion Isk.
That makes flying them pretty exciting right there. I know a lot of you have given up already.
But they get SIX bonuses, and some of them are quite outstanding; for example if you have level 5 in Amarr defensive subsystems you will be able to have a ship that runs 2 medium reppers for the same cap cost as a single repper on other ships. Combine that with the base resists + subsystem resists, you should be able to create some quite monstrous tanks, and at the other end some quite horrendous DPS setups too.
Remember the old days (2007, lol) when people would fly Machariels worth several billions and enjoyed incredible superiority over most other ships. Sure not many people did, but some did.
It seems reasonable to me that you could have a huge amount of fun soloing small fleets with these, or forming a small fleet of T3 ships and destroying large fleets of regular ships. They aren't for everyone, but those people who can afford them and know how to fly them will have a great time. I think they are looking pretty damn good.
As for the skill loss; well, it isn't really much. The aforementioned Amarr defensive skill, if trained to V, will only cost you 3 or 4 days if your attributes and implants are tuned for it. That's not really so bad. Again, for people with 50 or 70 million SP who have run out of stuff to train anyway, it's not really a problem.
They might also be the only way you will be able to handle sleeper spawns with a small gang. So for the dedicated w-space farmer they will be great too.
I can't wait!

If you don't want to take the risk or don't have the capital to even risk in the first place, then that's your choice and a result of the choices you have made. Eve combat is already risky with

Because T3 is not the same as T1? Because not only does T3 lack ISK insurance as a T1 have, but with the T3 you will loose SPs in addition?
I think we can safely say there will be a difference between these two Ship tiers.
..Or was your post made as a joke?

Do you need macro alts? No. Do you need leagl normal alts? No. Do you need to have been with EVE a while? Yes. I have been here for the better part of a year. I can afford T3 easily. I fly billion isk mission ships. And guess what? They make me isk, fast :P. And I have no alt.

I'm the type of player who spends 100M on a corp-sponsered BS then gets it popped. I don't play enough to make the ISK to pay for one of these things - but if I get to pop one with my fleet mega, then great.
New and expensive targets to shoot at is ****ing great. ;)
And if I can fly one, I'll have the rush of warping into an engagement in one. Bring it on. New ships and new configurations are good. So what if they're expensive or only for the elite ?
Popping one will be great ;) And being popped in one is bad for your wallet and doubtless your efficiency in terms of isk/reward.
Big deal. Live with it.
