I do not know where it comes from, I guess general MMO mentality that anything a player gets from the MMO environment is technically "free" because it is loot, or minerals, or whatever. I guess what they do not take into account is the time spent acquiring said "stuff," or the fact that the "stuff" is worth something even if it is not rarefied into a final product.
But, you spent any time at all in the Market Channels or in the Market Discussions, I am sure you have seen the geniuses who say "I can undercut everyone with my Ravens because the I mine my minerals myself, hence they are free." Of course people like me buy that idiot's Ravens and convert it back into minerals by refining and sell it on the market at a markup.

There are still idiots out there who think that the minerals they mine are "free."
Then let the party continue!

Edited by: King Amarrian on 21/02/2009 23:47:41 Edited by: King Amarrian on 21/02/2009 23:47:13 1. T2 prices back in the bpo days had ships costing 200mil+ for a HAC because there were only 20 BPO's. Those days can never return due to higher supply through invention and sheer amount of moon mins coming in. The bob thing is not that much, since Delve only had less than 20 high end moons. It has less Dyso/Prom moons than even Esoteria.
It is good for NPCing though, as are all pirate NPC sov systems.
Next, The Minerals are free crowd - Moon minerals are free only if you are using towers for sov purposes. In which case you may as will mine any old rubbish that is there, since it genuinly is free. Even if you seel the rubbish for 1 mil, thats still 1 mil towards your sov fuel bill.
Thats also the reason why most moon mins are a load of crap.
Finally.......
REMEMBER ALCHAMY - No more monoply on High end moons anymore. Thus, prices WILL go down!

Yay, the worst alliance in the drone regions/game has come to save us from our ignorance!
Gotta love how you identify me with the alliance I am in. Rather amusing really.

Where did this "minerals I mine for free" idea come from in the first place and why do they think they are free?
It's basically just a lack of simple business thinking. They fail consider concepts like "opportunity cost" or "time value of money".
Flaw logic incoming.... If you mine minerals for the sole purpose of building something (rather then selling them) then you can ignore the selling price of those minerals. If you ignore the selling price of those minerals then you have to assign a value based on what it cost you to get the item. Since the only cost is time, and many people don't value time in this game, then we arrive at... time value = 0 thus mineral value = 0 thus minerals are free.
While it is flawed logic, it isn't nearly as strange as some of the other stuff people come up with. Actually you can even see it happen in the real world, it is just very rare to pop up in anything bigger then a sole-proprietorship since most larger businesses have people with BBA's to run the numbers for them.
Sig is now EVE related. Happy mods?
