Anyone have any experience with this ship? I've had my eye on it for quite a while because it one of the more unique ships(nobody seems to be using it) Any advice would be appreciated.

Yes, we blew one of Red Corsairs' Vigils away the other day in an ambush.
They were camping a nearby stargate and demanding tolls, etc. so we decided to go take care of it.
When our 4 - 5 cruisers got there, they all warped out, but the poor Vigil just wasn't paying attention I guess.
His ship didn't last too long. Ah well.
Better luck next time.

Ledribaen,
I felt like you once and acquired the vigil, and it was a big mistake.
I had my eye on the vigil since the first day I started in the game. It wasn't too long before I could afford one. Unfortunately it was before I had the sense to check out a ship's stats and understand what they meant.
The Vigil is being described in the game as this great EW platform. It has a good number of med slots for a frigate (3) but that is about it. The ship has pitiful shields and armor (worse than a breacher) and does not have the powergrid or cap to be an effective EW platform. The shields and armor wouldnt be an issue if the ship had a decent lock on range, but it doesn't. You have to get close enough for people to blast you away before you can lock and use your EW modules.
I eventually got the rifter after a while. I regret the money I spent on the Vigil. |

The Vigil is a fine ship. It's effectiveness like so many other ships is dependent on 3 things. Skills, equipment, and pilot.
It is an effective EW ship if that is what you want to do. I have also found it to be a very capable combat ship when properly equiped.

It is one of the few Frigates that have three mid-slots. So you can load it with all types of "support" equipement. This could be EW or any number of the booster equipement.
Second. It is DANG-ON fast. I would even say it can be the fastest frigate out there. Three mid slots for AB's. Three Lows for Over drives and Minmatar Frigate skill gives you an extra bonus. My top speed, when kitted out for speed, is current 1400+ m/s. Coupled with its agility, it makes one of the best blockade runners for small cargos.
Its got a very high cap. Good for long jumps.
It is an excelent Scout/Recon and Courier ship. And can even provide a good support role in a team.
100 m3 drones....For fire power or mining.
It is a very veristile ship.

anyone else have any experience in a vigil? How would I kit it out to be an effective EW ship. I want to be locking on 6+ targets at a time and warp scrambling/webifying etc...

Gustavef hit the nail on the head. It is a wicked-fast ship, and is used for scouting by some corps.
If you like it, buy it.
Have fun :)

It is the fastest frigate by far (executioner and rifter both have higher base speeds but neither can fit 3 AB which hampers them a lot, Griffin can fit 4 ab's but its base speed is too slow) its 3:3:3 slots give you the ability to kit for many different circumstances .. my personal record in a vigil was 1760 m/s which I could run permanently (that was pre-Ab nerf in the last patch though .. I only had Mono AB's though, you could still do the 1760 or more with liF's)
Its perfect for agent missions, where its decent cargo, moderate weapon load and super-speed will allow you to do the missions in super-quick time .. a Cruiser with MWD(/s) would be next-best but the drain from that thing and relative slow cap recharge (especially with the MWD's new negatives) would slow you some over time
Edit add :
I also have an idea it would be about the best anti-missle ship out there since it has a reasonable range and weapons apability coupled with a 1.0 sec lock-on time and enough slots/cpu to fit a number of tracking boosts (make it like 0.2s lock hehe) then you just fit a fast firing weapon witha long range and knock those missiles from the sky ;) Sufficient speed from 1 or 2 AB's to out-run all but the fastest/lightest missles while your doing it

I use only the vigil currently and have it since more than one month.
This ship is great. I love it. His slot capacity allow you to tweak it into many different way to fit different tactics. I dont know why it is not seen more offten. The rifter is raw power, but the Vigil will give you more subtility and tactical range. If you are a freelancer also a Vigil is pretty good, because you can do manything with it. It have also a nice cargo capacity compared to anothe Frigate like the Rifter.
In terms of fire power it match relativly well the other frigate with 2 turret and 1 missile laucher. The armor, shield and hull can be boosted with module and skills. But if you tweak it to make it stronger it might cost you into EW possibility.

3 abs = 24 power. The vigil only has 25 power, so you're using up your base powergrid for that speed.
That's my biggest issue with the vigil. If it had 30 power, that would make a big difference.
My ideas for a vigil right now:
1) Three multi-spectral jammers. Total 12 jamming on all types, effictively jams any ship w/o ECCM, and probably most that do have ECCM.
2) Get the targetting mod that takes a medium slot and increases range and turret-tracking speed. Combine with the one that reduces the defender's range and turret-tracking speed, and you may have a real advantage.

Vigil is great for speed like picking up skills 2x jumps away from home base.
3 ABs and 3 partial hulls, and nav skills! Engineering skills handle the pgr requirements.
Vigil would be great for Agent missions when it's patched up.
