When a corp that you're interesting in joining asks for your API key, what exactly do they do with it? I know they intend to look at your skill list and the like, but I haven't been able to find a place to plug it in and look at your character.
And what exactly do each of the two API keys do? If my assumptions are right, the Limited Key simply lets them see what skills you're training, as in EVE Mon. But what about the Full Key? Is there any reason at all for the corp to ask for the Full key?
--------------------------------------------------- Sorry, this is an alt. Don't bother sending messages to him. |

Corporations asking for the full api key can possibly find out who your alts (or your true main perhaps?) are through various journal records giving and receiving iskies for example. Other than that, who knows..

the full key essentially grants complete transparency, and nobody should ever need it, as the limited one does what should be needed much better. ----

How does the Limited key let them see alts?
And how exactly do they retrieve this info? Do they plug it into EVE Mon?

It's alts as in the three characters on that account. if you put API into EveMon or EFT or any other of the many programs it will show a list of characters from that account to import.

either way its kind of silly
honestly if your an alt spy I dont think your going to have the fact that your main is in BoB or Goons on that account.
thats why you do things like require your members to allow you to scan your router and every computer you own including any wireless notebooks computers. After all this is EvE. if your too paranoid to play eve your problably not paranoid enough to play EvE.

API key is a necessary step in the application process for any self-respecting corp that takes internet spaceships seriously. _________________ [IMAGE REMOVED] -- aka Cpt Bogus -- Is that my torped sig cloaking your base?

We ask for the API, because we can. Don't like giving it to us? Find another corp to join. Win-Win, I'd say. --------

As I say every time this comes up. Just tell them to stuff it. There are other and far more effective ways of weeding out undesirable recruits than invading peoples privacy. ---

Main reason for asking for the API key is to ensure your not applying with an alt. Spying and espionage, within the big alliances especially, is rife in eve so the corps are simply checking that your not a spy alt.
I'm sure there are other reasons however giving you limited API key is not really an issue. I would definitly NOT recommend fiving your full api key out though.

CORPs asking for API is similar to employers asking for your CV. It shows them your current skills, etc, so they can better utilise your skills and future training within a team environment.
Failure to provide your 'limited' API shows a lack of trust bordering on paranoia on your part, as it cannot be used negatively against you. There is no need to provide a 'full' API. A CORP demanding a full API are themselves being a little paranoid.

inEve API verified there, no need for corps to ask for it. ---

Its also used for automatic posting of killmails on killboards.
When a respectable corp ask for it, its most likely used in corp maintenace and security programs. In the right hands absoluttly no harm done. __________________________________
