Would be really neat if there was an option in the chat to put yourself afk so people know it.
Maybe changing the colour of the name in the right window, or simply putting an afk inside a parenthesis.

You would need to be careful about how this was implemented.

The flag should only be shown to those in corp chat as otherwise it will not be used by those who practice mining afk. It would just advertise you were a sitting duck.

Yes, but I would rather see the option to set afk in each chat separately, so that you can go afk in corp, trade, and if you feel lucky and want to take a risk in local.

If this EVER implemented, PLEASE give us a choice as I will NOT be using this feature. If you talk to me and I don't answer, I'm either ignoring you or AFK. You decide which, don't matter to me either way.

As a former player of other MMOs (EQ ad WoW particularly, sorry if this isn't allowed, just tell me so I can remove it), both had the option to say you weren't there, regardless of whether you were or not. As this is PVP enabled constantly, I'd say they should implement the feature universally so it can be seen in any channel and if the person needs to go AFK, they should go to a safe place first, if they don't, they take the risk, their choice; it's the same as going AFK but not telling anyone and when you talk you have no response, similar to blocking people chatting to you in the aforementioned.

Why not go one step better and have animated Avatar icons in the chat that can be set using / - 'slash' commands or right menu click options on the Avatar.
/slap is an oldie and still a goodie tho we could update that to the new millenium with other options/actions and have visual feedback, and also maybe a text notification
Eg.
You could set /afk and your avatar piccie takes a snooze or something like that
/lol would make your avatar piccie laugh
etc

And if you right click action on the avatar piccie for another player then their avatar can respond in an appropriate way.
For those wanting to minimise CPU/performance overhead then this option could be turned on/off via a ESC menu tick box inthe graphics section.

Kind of like a bridging step towards Walking in Stations really :)

I have wanted a afk option. Just make it a /afk command. No one has to use it but if your sitting somewhere your comfortable saying your afk and you know your gonna be away for a bit quite handy. Saves logging off so people know your not there...If you wanted to go a little bit further you could even give it a small message so when people hit show info on you they could see it.

Better, like Yahoo Messenger Status, and to be able to set different status messages in different chat-windows. A small text just under the name displaying your current status.
