Because someone said "let's put a 24h restriction in" and then someone (maybe the same person) programmed it in.
Sig is now EVE related. Happy mods?

Also to stop people from setting up a 3 year skill queue and then bugger off to work in hawaii as a shirt-tailor, returning all tanned with a gazillon dollars in pocket, buy a stack of GTC and own EVE.

Why is there a problem with that ? They're still paying and developing their characters slower than everyone else who actively plays and makes ISK while training.

Bad PR. More people on servers, good PR.
If they have to log in, they will most likely play too.

Because CCP wants ppl to log in and play the game, instead of setting 450 days of skilltraining, and logging in next summer.

Main purpose of the skill queue is to allow people with a tight daily schedule to maintain constant training by allowing them to put in a follow up skill should their current skill finish at a inconvenient time.
That and to have a newbie stack all those 15 minute skills up through the night/day, allowing for a more convenient initial training experience. -------- Ideas for: Mining

Devblog, if you cant be bothered to read it, I wont supply you the link either. Try logging on to the testserver, and test if for yourself, its already implemented on singularity.

Originally by: The queue The skill training system we came up with allows you to queue skills that will start training in the next 24 hours. You can enter in up to 50 skills in a queue, as long as they all start training within 24 hours. This leaves room to start a skill that will take 6 hours, followed with one that takes 12 to complete. With only 18 hours of training prepared, the queue still has room to start another skill.

Yea, they still get money in their pocket but the servers will suffer. There will be less people playing and active CCP dont want that. Neither do most players either.

Because they have no connection with each other. They did not bring in skill queue because they removed ghost training. And since they dont want people to skillqueue forever, the limit is set to 24 hour.
Personally I would like to see no skill queue in EVE at all.

Most likely, CCP looked at the problem, and asked these 2 questions: 1) Why do players want a skill queue? 2) Why do we not want to provide a skill queue?
As for question #1, the vast majority of vocal players wanted a skill queue to make it easier to train skill which only had less than 24 hours left, but more than 4-6 hours left. These skills often completed at inoppourtune times, which leads to lost training time. Also, players complained that training a lot of short duration skills was difficult, because they had to switch to a new skill whenever a short skill completed.
As for question #2, CCP had several fears. First and foremost was that people would stop logging in. Right now you have to log in to change your skill training, and once you log in you might as well play for a bit. When people lose the desire to log in, skill training offers an incentive to do so which increases the chances that they will continue playing the game when they would otherwise get bored of it. Their second fear was that it would make it easier for people to farm characters. They would just set a year long skill queue and let the character "bake" until it was ready to be sold. There were other fears that it would make it easier for macro-miners to set up and manage multiple accounts.
After looking at the 2 problems, they probably decided that a 24 hour skill queue was the best option - players can queue up a lot of short skills, and then tack on a long skill at the very end of the queue so that no training time will get lost. And CCP doesn't have to worry about people not logging on to change skills, because they will still need to do that once their long skill finishes (or if they want to train more short skills).

Actually, IIRC, PrismX promised that in return for the loss of ghost training, that he would investigate a skill queue for us. He also promised that if given the OK from his higher-ups, he would code it himself.

@16 I connected those 2 functions because it was the only way to actually exploit a queue system and I assumed the restriction was planned with ghost training in mind.
@17 Keep in mind a queue does not open up new possibilities, it makes some things easier. And for the macro-miners, making a program to manage the skill training of any amount of EVE characters wouldn't be too hard I imagine.

Actually it's 23 hours, 59 minutes, 59 seconds PLUS whatever your longest skill is. The queue is for skills starting in the next 24h.
