Edited by: Professor Nutbutter on 25/02/2009 01:01:41 I've searched and read the forums very carefully and haven't found anything for this specific problem.
I made sure my drivers are all up to date and thought "meh, might as well give it a try" so I copy 'n' pasted my EVE folder, renamed it to Test, patched it to the test server and followed the guide on adding the IP address to a shortcut and started it up. So the splash screen starts up just fine (I definitely prefer the Apocrypha splash to the QR splash, I find blue much more calming :P), it changes to the black full-screen and BAM "eve.exe has encountered a problem and needs to shut down". That lovely little box has done nothing but make me hate my life.
So um, is there a way around this?

Same problem, as per usual. I load up EVE, Splash screen loads, and suddenly "CCP Exefile has stopped working..blah blah". This is only with premium graphics enabled, however. And, now the list of "what has been done".. (keep in mind EVE online is the ONLY game that does this to me)
3 reinstalls, from premium installer, classic installer, and subsequent classic update to prem. Drivers updated (graphics, sound, Nforce drivers (chipset)) All vista 64 patches applied, obviously. Settings wipe from the Users folder. No love. Short of a reformat, I've done everything I can think of. I've even rolled back the Nvidia graphics drivers to about 175. Every blasted compatibility mode I can find...
And so we can find a pattern... AMD 6000+ 3.1 Ghz Dual 9800GTX SSC's in SLI ASUS Nforce 780A MB 8GB OCZ Platinum RAM Vista 64 (Please god Don't make me dual boot to XP) -------------------------

Edited by: annoing on 28/02/2009 00:32:32 There seems to be a line running from current eve.exe crashes to Vista 64. Maybe some sort of compatability issue between dx10 vista and Eve maybe?
I believe CCP have a thread somewhere about how to download the latest DX9 for use with Vista.
BTW: Do you have AA enabled on your gfx card? Maybe an idea to turn it off, especially if you are trying to run the game with HDR and Bloom ticked in your in-game settings. The 2 are known to have issues (Eve is no AA fan) and may cause problems inside Vista settings. Worth a try at least right?

There was a .NET 3.5 compatibility update released by Microsoft wednesday or thursday... maybe before that since I have my Windows Update set to off. Bioshock wouldn't launch before I applied the update so maybe it will fix your EVE CTD.

Tried disabling AA and AF. No such love. Hell, disabled pretty much everything via Nhancer. Still CTD after splash screen. Still, safe mode and no premium grpahics works, so I can at least change my skill training. Sigh. Trying the update from .net (installing as we speak). I don't think EVE is a .net application, but worth a shot.
But yes, this and many other thread hsve one of two common components. WinVista (32 or 64, 64 mostly), and/or Nvidia stuff (obviously, there's a few irregularities here and there, but when isn't there).
And, to agree with professor nutbar.../wrist. I miss my Shiny EVE...
Oh, and to top it off, my LAPTOP (le gasp) running vista 64 (same updates as my desktop, different card (intel GMA365 or some crap) runs premium (barely) and no CTD's

Don't feel left out. I'm experiencing a very similar problem trying to test Apocrypa on Singularity but with Windows 7 Beta and ATI graphics. I'm not seeing any crash message though. I see the splash screen and then it's back to the desktop. The task manager shows that the Eve client is still running.
I'll dig around next for the mentioned .Net update.

Edited by: Taraw on 28/02/2009 17:35:23 Try using the default settings for your graphics driver. Don't force AA or something. I guess you have installed all Windows Update patches, right? |

Edited by: WheatGrass on 28/02/2009 17:55:13 Success!
Running in the "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)" compatibility mode got me past the splash screen to the log on. After a couple more hours, I should have the update downloaded. ;-)
The .Net 3.5 SP didn't seem to do anything for me.
I tried the newer ATI CCC which comes with the v9.2 Vista driver. It still doesn't work under Windows 7. So, I've put the previous CCC version on with the newer Vista v9.2 driver.
Edit... See you on Singularity -my alt will anyway. :)

Edited by: Kemshi on 01/03/2009 18:09:13 Same problem, with no definate solution yet. I have seen 5 different threads on this problem now though. Load to splash, then to black screen. My difference, even safe mode doesnt work for me. I have re-installed 7 times since this started after dt yesterday. No joy.

I got this problem a few days ago, it was shortly after i installed windows updates. After clearing my cache, settings etc with no luck, i did a system rollback to before i installed the updates. It worked so it looks like the problem is with windows, hope ccp will release a hot fix asap. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Aell, at least it's not trying to be limited to specific hardware. I don't know what else to call it, and I hate placing blame on anything. I'm hoping that the M10 patch will fix my client. -------------------------

After about a week of trying everything from clearing cache to rolling back 1 month well before the issue, eve still will not load. I do have a logserver file and dxdiag file sent for the past couple days and no word yet. |

Ok, mine's fixed. Took a total of 3 re-installs of my nforce 15.24 drivers (literally spamming the installer, reboot, test eve, fail, rinse/repeat). finally got premium graphics going. Had to install EVERY bloody option except for the display drivers. -------------------------
