I am starting to train a new miner alt. The idea is to be able to mine solo with one alt, and to run protection duties at the same time with my main char.
My question is two fold.
1. What kind of hardware is needed for such operations? To run 2x eve clients on one machine seems prety resource intensive. Can some one who does this provide some specks.
2. I am obviously training for an apoc. How long untill I can get into one with a fresh char in RL time with some prety good mining skills.

However, if you train learning, memory, intelligence, perception and willpower skills upto level 3 it should take less than 25 days depending on your base attributes
Then if you get implants this can be reduced even further.

Edited by: Mean Jeebus on 11/08/2004 14:04:40 I run two clients at the same time on one pc.
I have two seperate installations of the game. That way your individual prefs and other things don't get messed up when launching.
My pc is a Pentium 4 2.6ghz with 1 gig of ram. I am currently using a 64mb GeForce 2 card and it works OK. (I have a new GeForce 6800 GT on it's way woot!) There are graphical glitches that occur when running multiple clients that disappear as soon as you close all but one client. Nothing major...just annoying.
A minimum I would recommend for 2 accounts is: P4 2ghz 512mb GeForce 2 (at least a 64mb card) Broadband 19" or bigger monitor (especially if you will play both accounts in windowed mode)
Some tips for running 2+ clients on the same computer:
1. Be sure to uncheck the sun is occluded box on all clients. 2. If playing in full screen on the clients, make their resolutions and bit-depth (i.e. 16-bit or 24-bit) the same as your desktop setting. This avoids forcing the monitor to switch resolutions when switching between clients among other issues. 3. I find it useful to have different UI colors for the different clients to avoid confusion. 4. If you have a graphics card that supports multiview (mutliple monitors), then by all means use more monitors! Some people have reported that they can only really use windowed mode with two monitors for two clients.
I have done exactly what you speak of. I trained a Amar guy to fly an Apoc, use a few drones, and haul. He couldn't even shoot a Medium weapon, yet he was in an Apoc with Elec. and eng. skills at 5 .
Don't forget the hauling skills. Sometimes your main will find it useful to have someone haul for them.
I hope you found somethin in here useful.

I am currently taking care of someone elses account, and although it is pretty resource intensive to run both(88-100% CPU usage) I do not experience any extra lag. My system is:
2.6GHz P4 HT 1024MB RAM ATI Radeon 9600XT with 128 MB RAM 120GB Harddrive Cable Internet

xp2500 oc to xp3000 1024 meg ddr 3200 from corsair radeon 9800XT :D (which rox)
with this setup its still using pretty much all my comps resource but it does run properly Your Tachyon Modulated Energy Beam I perfectly strikes Sansha's Tyrant, wrecking for 1589.6 damage. Muhahahaha |

you might want to look at the Osprey (Caldari cruiser) which got a VERY nice bonus to mining with the last patch.

As you speak of alts and main characters... I hope you are aware that playing two chars at once not only takes two clients, but also two accounts. You can only log on to one character per account.

I have 2 accounts running all the time, together with 3 or 4 Netscape windows, and EveSkillMonitor without any problems, processor sits between 60 and 70% usage.
P4 3.06Ghz 1Gb PC3200 DDR Gigabyte 81K1100 motherboard (allows dual channel DDR) ATI Radeon 9700 Pro 128 (running Omega drivers) 19" monitor Windows 2000 Pro
I have my desktop set to 1280x1024, and run each client in a 1024x768 window, so I can see part of each window (one top left, the other bottom right)
I also agree with the poster who said run your clients with different interface colours, I use red and blue.
Also agree with running the 2 clients from seperate directories, it means you have to patch twice every time there is a patch, but it saves having the settings and chatlogs mixed up together.
