I was considering booking March 10th off as a holiday from work, but then again is it worth it?
I mean if the expansion comes out that day, then surely it won't roll live on the servers until the scheduled 11.00 - 12.00 downtime (which may well be longer than usual?). So at the very least it would mean a wasted morning of sitting reading the box & picking my nose.
Or will they schedule the downtime / expansion going live at some other time?
Plus then theres the mass of people trying to log in which I bet will increase, but there's no getting around that I suppose - just keep trying...trying..

March 10th is a TUESDAY. Waste of a holiday. If you MUST take a day off, take Friday, March 13th. Since it's a "bad luck" day in most of the western world, I suspect that many workplaces will be light that day anyway as all the superstitious people call in sick. You'll just blend in with the crowd taking the day off.

If previous large expansions that introduced tons of new features are any indication then wait till the weekend to put any serious playtime in as any gamekilling issues will have been squashed by then with the rest getting zapped in the following weeks.

March 10 will most likely be a "day of downtime", so getting that day free would be a big mistake. March 11 will probably be a day of instabilities and hotfixes, so getting THAT one free would be a bad idea too. March 12, now you're starting to talk... but I'd probably wait until the 13th, or even just the 16th (since 14/15 are the weekend, so usually free anyway).

Yep...as has been said, take the Friday or the Monday.
Patch day itself is an all-day downtime. The day after is going to be laggy, buggy, and a general pain in the ass. By Friday things should start to be looking up...but in my opinion, monday is your safest bet. -Zyck |

I think I'll tell everyone I'm going to take the 13th off to play Eve, then sneak off to ride my motorcycle.
If I stay off the main roads so the police won't notice I'm not wearing a helmet.

Patch day itself, you should be outside, taking a glimpse at the sun (if you do not live in the UK, they simply don't offer sun there), breathe some fresh air, replenish the food stocks in your gaming bunker and do whatever you need to do that prevents you from gaming on normal days. You know, sex and that stuff....
The day after (P+1), you may want to go to work, if you are internet capable there, to read the abnormous amount of threads about "CCP broke this" "CCP nerf/fix this" and "EVE is dying".
Now, the Day after Patch Day's next day [!sic] (P+2), you may actually consider taking the day off, but do not be disappointed if you don't get the amount of "whoah!" and "wow!" and "jeeeeeeezus" that you might have expected from reading the forums on P+1, since CCP will have ninja-fixed/nerfed/boosted stuff over DT. :)
Overall... you shouldn't take a day off for major Patches... save those for more important stuff... just call in sick --------

This!
Been involved in far too many lagfests and rollbacks.
Though another general rule in MMOs is:
Exploit early and often!
That rule will cause many hopeful exploiters to take the day off, especially if SiSi has helped them discover a bug or a game imbalance.

eve usually deploy their big patches on a tuesday or wednesday on experience.
now as some of you know they can make a mess of patch day (no offence against you guys at eve) and it has been known to go on for 3 days in the past and with a barely workable system after that for another day or so.
so basically if you take the days off at the beginning of march and eve is down then dont expect to play it.
from what i recall being said they were going to launch apocyrpha at the end of march but who knows.

First, the patch is going to be huge, 1.3GB or bigger.
Second, don't take a day off until the patch to fix the patch. By then the general game-breaking bugginess is gone or bearable.

Downtime will most likely be between 4 and 12 hours depending on if they are changing hardware as well or not. So the day itself is pretty pointless and if you are really lucky it MIGHT be a good idea to take the Wednesday off so you can play Tuesday night. But it might as well be that the cluster will be unstable as **** for a week or so (and then it would be a waste as well :>) --- -The only real drug problem is scoring real good drugs |

Put all your characters (if you have more then one account) on a long training skill the day before the patch (at least a 4 day training skill) and go do something else.

I would wait until near the weekend AFTER the update week, just in case 50,000 EVE box set buyers all try and log in to check out this new MMO they've seen on the shelf at GAME on the 13th/14th/15th/16th. ________________________________________________

Don't take the day off.
CCP have been getting better at releasing major patches, but this one has an externally applied deadline - the launch of the boxed game. They'll be rushing to get things out of the door. They'll be sticking last minute bugfixes in when really they should be freezing and doing QA. They'll arse things up royally.
I love CCP, but some patch days (and weeks) I've know in the past have been long, drawn out horrors of epic fail and much forum whining. Remember, you don't want to be the person to post "I took my officer fitted Golem out five minutes after patch day and I lost it to a bug. WTF CCP?"

As much as I would like to see a smooth patching day on the 10th of march, I will expect smaller or larger problemes to evolve anyway. Its a huge expansion, and as much as the devs are trying to failproof it, some bugs will most likely slip through anyway. Such is the real world. So most likely taking a day off on the 10th can be a "wasted holiday". No, if I where you book a day off on the friday. Then you get an extended weekend! And some of the most severe bugs should have been cleaned up. IF there where any who results in additional downtime.

Muah, CCP is really enjoying our trust. Well, this is what happens if you mess up too many (read: almost all) patches. You loose something valuable. CCP is a joke when it comes to patching, they have their own league of failures. Nobody else can't even touch CCP.
I'm ready for anything, i just hope the new patch won't re-format my harddrives without a warning. Well, it might happen. You never know.
I'm going to delete my boot.ini file, so the patch can't touch that one again.
Good luck, you're gonna need it.
