When will EVE support SLI??? I am running a 9800 GX2 I have to run it on a 512Mb set up beacuse when I run it at 1024Mb SLI the client is as usefull as an underwater Sniper.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but SLI works for me? I'm running 2 x 8800GTX 756mb in SLI mode with HDR and AA running great.
Or wait, do you mean SLI options in the EVE graphics settings tab? |

SLI is overrated. What you need is 3 9800GX2's so you can have your Eve clients on 8 monitors. The 9th monitor as any right thinking person knows is of course reserved for p0rn. |

Maybe I'm misunderstanding too, but what is there to support? Isn't it up to the gfx driver to spread out the workload among the cards? That's how it worked in the good old days when SLI was invented — the game had nothing to do with the matter — but maybe that has changed with these newfangled cards… ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in =v=à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

Update your drivers? Those that got released last week fixed all problems I had. Running 9800 GX2 in SLI as well. Though I never had to disable SLI.

If EvE is crashing make a bug report (not a petition).
I have the same issue as you and there are allot of others with the same problem. (just search the forum)
In my case when EvE crashes it makes vista crash with a Blue Screen Of Death. (all drivers updated) I have to disable SLI to make EvE work.
Maybe when they get allot of reports of EvE crashing they do something about it.
As it is they are not assuming that it is a EvE problem, even, if it only happens with EvE (in my case, at least).

3x 9800s gives you 8 screens? I need four video cards for 8 screens :(

In one of the fanfest 2008 lectures (the one with the Nvidia guy and EvE technical director) it was said that EvE does not support SLI as a GAME and that there is no driver support from Nvidia side either.
But on a cheerfull note (cheerfull for you Nvidia guys, I'm ATI, crossfire works just fine ) they both said that it's an easy fix. And that it could be easily implemented, but it would only work as long as you play fullscreen. Apparently SLI doesn't support windowed mode for some reason.
I'll try to find the link to that lecture.

If you want it, I suppose you just need to spam the forums and/or send a couple of beer boxes to EvE CTO (Halldr Fannar Gujnsson) and some beer to that Nvidia guy (Phill Scott) too.

9800GX2's have 2 DVI and 1 HDMI outs so 3 per card. Eve on a 170cm LCD makes you want to touch yourself how your mother told you you shouldn't. |

I didn't have problems running SLI, but there is hardly any gain from it. The real problem that bugs me is that you cant use AA, you may be able to hack it, but it would be nice if it was officially supported, cause currently I am in full time play mode ( opposed to full time overclocking/tweaking mode :p ), and I don't want to mess up my system atm. If AA would be properly supported, then an SLI setup could be put to some good use.

How much of a performance hit do you get with AA turned on? ...

I was told that you can only use 2 of the 3 outputs at a time cos the HDMI shares it's output with a DVI. Either 2 DVI or 1 HDMI and 1 DVI or so I was told.

I have 2 8800 GT 512 in SLI forced to alternate frame render in the Nvidia control panel, works flawlessly. You can even test SLI usage with Nhancer load graph. ----

I'm using XFX 9800GX2's (PV-T98U-ZHB9) and they have no problem using all the outs at once.
Just had a quick play, running 2 Classic Eves on 2 monitors and watching a bluray DVD on the HDMI out only drops my Eve fps by 4 which was very surprising, I was expecting a lot more.

Can't say that for sure since I only briefly played around with nhancer ( to force AA ), and it did not work for me ( didnt see visible improvement ). But if it would work, I am sure it would have a significant performance impact, especially if you go for 16x. I also wonder if AF works. Damned I have a bad feeling about this, soon I'll be tweaking again more then playing ... grr all cause of the OP ! :p

Edited by: CyberGh0st on 07/03/2009 00:49:38 After messing around with nHancer, the best quality AA ( 4 x 4 supersampling with supersampling transparancy ) is quite taxing on my system, especially with HDR turned on. Performance drops from 180 fps in station to 25 fps. Multisampling 8xQ is alot lighter, but also much less improvement. Combined AA is the holy grail of AA quality/performance wise ( combines multi with supersampling ), but only works with 1 client, second client crashes my system :(
Oh and want to add that I DID had issues with SLI in the past, almost forgot about those :p Sold my second card, gonna buy 2 x GTX285 now, so I can run 4 x 4 AA ( I hope :p )

I am running 2 rigs,
first is a quad core with 2 x 8800 gt / 512 cards in SLI with Vista . Runs fine and noticable frame rate increase when you go to Flusscreen on client
( SLI is only operational when client is fullscreen and not windowed )
My second rig is Core i7 - 940 / 6 GB ram / 9800 GX2 SLI on a card - again works beutifully in SLI and if I leave interval at immediate, cranks out 338 FPS in station and 220 (ish) in space at 1920 x 1280. So not sure what your issue is about the memory. If your 32 bit maybe your running into a resource collision in the memory mapping for the cards when you go to 1024? Any settings on your mobo for video memory apature size reserve the memory space ?
Just throwing thoughts out there
btw .. both my machines are on Vista 64 bit if that helps
