Dear friends,
thank you for your time reading my post.
I'd like a little bit of help and someone to explain me quickly what am i doing wrong using guns.
My caldari pilot is mainly missile specced. However i decided to switch a part of his training to guns. I must be doing something wrong in my gameplay, because currently he's got the support skills to level 2 to 3 and I have lvl 3 medium hybrid missiles. So i went on and i put all guns to my battlecruiser. the damage output is terrible. I understand the issue with the optimal range and i try to be within it (it must be around 24-25 km at the moment).
is it getting better with training up the skills?? is it worth it keep on training? Bare in mind that i do mainly PVE with this character, i dont know if this is important.
the opinion of you guys that are more experienced in guns than me is very importent because the skillpoints are many and i dont want to waste them on something i dont really need
once again, thank you for your time reading and even more for replying

Hybrid missile spec is not only important, but the most important skill to be trained. While many people assume that other skill might get them through the task of going through a mission, wrecking havoc, and doling out justice with the bare minimum of skills, they are wrong. You have narrowed the issue down to the point. We can easily recognize the dilemma that thousands if not millions are faced with. My advice would to be; press f1 - f6, watch the missiles fly, and have a yawn.

thank you for your answer
so, if i understand it correctly, missiles are better for pve and if i want to stick with guns i should train hybrid spec?
i know missles are the easy way to go, the thing is if there is a payback when you spend the time to train the guns to the appropriate level.
thank you for your time

Caldari gunships aren't much good for missioning, and they're orientated to range rather than damage. Gunnery is also more SP intensive than missiles - it's pretty much T2 or GTFO, and you'll need the support skills at level 4 to make them work.
OTOH, Harpy is arguably the best Assault Frigate for PvP, and the Rokh is equal to or very slightly behind the Apoc as the best fleet BS (Apoc has more DPS and doesn't need ammo, Rokh is trivially easy to doomsday-proof).
If you just want to run missions, put more SP into missiles. If you want to use gunnery for PvE then train Amarr.

Keep in mind with guns there are several variables.
1) Optimal Range.. As long as you're within this you should be fine as long as the other variables are good
2) Falloff.. This is a dividing factor on damage once you get beyond optimal range.
3) Tracking.. If the opponent is moving too fast around you in an orbit your guns can't keep up and won't be able to hit. Generally not a problem with small hybrids but it can be with mediums and especially large.
With small hybrids you sacrifice range and damage for good tracking.
Also note that each category of rails or blasters (i.e. small, med, large) has 3 variations. To use Large rails as an example: Dual 250mm, 350mm, 425mm. Dual 250's are good for tracking but provide less DPS and range. 425's are the opposite.
