Hi folks,
From what I can see from the various loadouts from different players, it seems that beam lasers are preferred for PvE and pulse for PvP, is this an accurate assumption ? For PvE, just use beams and let your drones take out the frigates ?
I have tried both setups with my Prophecy for mission running (L2/3s) and both does have its advantages and disadvantages but maybe I'm missing something :)
thanks!

Well here's the thing, Beams will shoot farther but they have a slower tracking speed. While Pulses will have a better tracking speed but can't shoot as far as Beams. I don't think it has much to do with Missions or PVP, its just your preference or playstyle.
For the record I use a Mega Pulse II for missions...

Alot of this also depends on the ship and the level of missions you are running. I did lv 3 missions in a harbinger with pulse lasers, as they were still fast enough to get the majority of the frigs, I just had to fit an AB so that I could get into range in a decent amount of time. <-------------------------------------------------> "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." -Albert Einstein |

As with all things in EvE, it depends.
Pulses are generally used for solo and small gang PvP because you're close to the target, so you want the increased damage per second Pulses are able to deliver. However, at fleet stand-off ranges (180km+), you need Beam lasers to hit.
For PvE, ships like the Zealot and Apocalypse can get away with using Pulses because of their range bonus, which is great with Scorch. However, using Scorch to run missions isn't really cost effective. Depending on the mission in question (short range warp in or long range), you'd want a different load out.
