Hello, i don't know much about scanning and probing but would like to test the new sleepers on testserver. In real life there is a manual that i can read so i know how to do new stuff. Is there something equal for scanning wormholes ? A kind of guide which gives me information on what skills i need, what kind of probes (names of probes and probe launchers) i have to use and how i can find a wormhole ? A short easy step by step foolproof instruction would be awesome. Thanks in advance.

There's a guide in forum on probing: http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1007848

Well thanks but this is a very looooong text and doesn't help me as newb. What are deep scan probes, and what are core probes ? Do i have to have astrometrics 5 to find sleepers ? I hoped for something short but clear, like: Take ship x, fit probe launcher y, load it with probe z, go to a planet, rightklick on scanner, do this and that, a short but precise text for a newb who doesn't know anything about probing.

There is no point testing any of it out if your only motivation is to look at fun new stuff; it barely works, and then, only if you jump through hoops.
Only point of testing it out is to actually test it, and submit bug reports.

The linked post walks you though how to scan in the new system. It's a step by step guide that, while it doesn't explain what each item is, does allow you to find something very easily.

there are no new skills added for probing with the new system. so go to the exploration forum and read a guide there on which skills you would need. the url above has a good guide on scanning with the new system. there is no short way of explaining a pretty complicated systems (although it's quite simple once you get the hang of it).
some hints core scanner probe I - used for exploration (plex/wormholes) (min Astrometric lvl I) combat scanner probe I - used for scanning down ships (min Astrometric lvl I) deep space scanner probe I - extra long range probe to quickly scan for signatures in a whole system (need Astrometric lvl V) Core Probe Launcher I - small probe launcher which fits on any ship, can only use Core Scanner Probe I's Expanded Probe Launcher I - bigger version for use on cov-ops ships. can use all 3 probes
so to start out fit a cov-ops with an expanded probe launcher I, fill it with core scanner probe I's and read the guide posted above. if you don't want to do that and are looking for an easy(ier) way to scan things down, then i'm sorry but this is it. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

so you need Astrometric 5 for deep scan probes, but do you need Astrometric 5 to find wormholes?

No, you 'can' find them with nothing more than Astrometics 1, but better skills will improve your chances.
Basic run down would be Drop a core probe, set it to 32AU and scan If there is a sig, move the probe about, 1 Axis at a time to get the best sig strength. (you wont get anywhere near 100% at this point) Once the sig strength is as high as you can get it, drop the scan range and repeat. Once you have scan range down to 0.25AU you should be able to get a strenght of 100%. Once you get this, drop 3 more probes, position them around your original probe, and scan with them. you will have to move them about to get a 100% warpable sig.
the rest is practice. YOU need to know how to do this, its not a press button, recieve bacon system anymore.
Once you have found a wormhole, take out your number 3 wormhole prying tool and insert the sharp end, then brace and pull. It should pop open spilling out all sorts of candy.
Best of luck

The variety of candy is huge.
Some could be strawberry flavour, some could be chocolate. Some could be the flavour to rainbows, and some could indeed be the flavour of unwanted surprise ********* in the uncleaned toilet of a 50's style diner at the hands of a 400 lb shaved gorilla with halletosis and dandruff.

Edited by: Mish''Kala on 27/02/2009 11:53:45 Cosmic Anomalies IIRC.
Edit. Astro 4 wont give you anything better then Astro 1 in terms of scanning. It will let you learn the other skills like Astrometric triangulation, which will have an impact on your success.
Astrometics now only gives more probes.

WH's are Cosmic Sigs. In the scanner results they appear as: Costmic Sig/Cosmic Sig/Deadspace
