I noticed on the Test Server that after I finished training a skill, it said I have a number of certificates available. What re these all about? How do you get them? What are they good for? -------------------

They are just fluff. They serve no purpose other than to give you an idea of where your strong points are, and really almost all of the certs have some stupid requirement that means that, even if you are effectively awesome in some category, you wont have the cert anyway because you didnt train some marginally related skill to 5. <-------------------------------------------------> "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." -Albert Einstein |

Certificates are not flawless, but give a good indication what to train how much, when you want to be good at something.

The official line is that you can guage your skill in certain areas by using certificates.
Quote: How do you get them?
by training skills.

Seeing how good you are at certain things. Your corp can see them too so they can see what you are best at, a good FC can assign the team to certain tasks based on their best skills.

Although, I did notice a lot of useless skills in the different certificates...I personally don't follow them. ----------------------------------- "What can go wrong, will go wrong." |

Problem is, it seems someone just threw them together without thinking.
For example:
Typhoon: only has one weapon certificate listed, projectile (its weakest weapon).
panther: they recomend artility, but only has a 40km lock range.
I think they have the potental to be useful, they just need some work (along with all the other things that need work)
Idea for next expandsion: CCP doesn't add any new stuff, just fixes all the broken and buggy current stuff. Might not look good on the press release, but might shut up the whiners for a bit (about 5 to 10sec).

I believe that more then half of the certicates will be redone within this year, to remove useless skills, redundancies and other flaws.
Besides that, the certificates are a good means to find a direction. And while the requirements sometimes are not really necessary to do the job the certificate will qualify you for, they always improve proficiency in the given skillset (and there are a few exceptions to that too) at least a little.

i've been playing for several months and find useful. it acts as a broad guideline and introduces you to skills you may not need immediately by otherwise might too easily ignore when trying to finesse your abilities. -- autechre - ep7 - track 1: rpeg estevancarlos.com |
