Not sure if anyone else has tried it, but i wanted to check out Darkfall and after playing a bit of beta and then pre-ordering (stupid mistake) IT IS A MAD HOUSE, its by far the worst game launch i have ever been part of! The community is insane, their servers during the little time they have been up are so bugged its almost none playable, lots of cheats going on due to NPC's dropping loot without putting up a fight! Basically i can go on and on, however my point of this post is ...
CCP look how far you have come! for an indie game company you guys have done an outstanding job not only in concept but for innovation and long term goals as well! My hats off to you!

well to be honest, darfall was a screw-up. a big one at that. the game has been in development for i dont know how long and they came out with that.
warhammer online for example had a nice start. the launch was smooth, servers were up. bus were few. but after that subs dropped like mad.
CCP has a thing for slowly getting people hooked and just not letting them go. most MMOs go up and down with subs, eve just keeps rising. slowly, but sure.

It's too bad because the MMO genre really could use some more sandbox-type games.

Yes.
Still, it's early days yet. I'll check it again in a couple of months.

I haven't even played it. But I will try later after they've fixed some things. Just hearing all the reviews is so entertaining right now. Nobody should be surprised at all when an MMO first launches and it's laggy and full of bugs.
As an EVE player who also enjoys WoW, I was very eager to try something fantasy-themed with more serious PvP (missed out on DAoC and UO when they were good). But enough to convince myself it was going to be worth playing at launch? Hell no Just knowing that their servers were going to be zerged by WoW players fiending for worthwhile PvP was enough.
From what I'm hearing, most of the problems with DF are things that can be fixed anyway (ie: bad AI behavior, incomplete crafting/gathering systems) and not necessarily design flaws.
So how was EVE release? I wasn't here for it, but must assume it was amazingly smooth.
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started. |

What are these bugs you speak of? Eve knows not of them. <_<

EVE release.
EVE release...
EVE...release...
Umm.
It was a smooth golden nugget out of perfections behind, with no flaws and nothing to complain about
Actually, honestly, if EVE came out today as it was then, it would fail so badly

Well, EVE, with all its piles and piles of sucky stuff, is STILL the best MMO you can possibly play right now, and is not looking like any significant contenders are in the works. Honestly, I'd really hope one serious contender WOULD come along in a similar niche, so CCP could stop focusing so much on shiny new crap that's at best a bullet point on the box, and focus more on fixing the long-standing inadequacies which we kind of learned to tolerate instead (we still hate them, but we've gotten used to it).

Well, you can't except that a game from so many years ago (our a version) would have the same value as then...
I'f they where to release EVE now it would probbably be Premiumn grapicks from the start.

I don't know... when eve released there were some pretty epic bugs to it. The release did happen smoothly, as most people that bought the game "pre sale" got into the last 2 to 3 weeks of Beta.
the day before release was "mayhem" everything could be shot, no concord, everything was 100 isk, and the devs gave every account something like 100million isk to "have fun." You could shoot stations, and they ended up using it as a giant stress test for the server.
I'm still here though... so it was pretty smooth.

Cool. Atleast CCP had the foresight to include a stress test prior to going retail. Darkfall had no such thing and their servers can't even handle the 10k players that paid full retail price.

Eve release. Sweet times.
Pirate players running around killing people in Empire with no problems, shield tanking Scorpions with 96% resists to everything, people being "spawn killed" when jumping into systems before their GUI even loaded, cruise missile kestrels with 2 MWD's going several thousand m/s..... those were the times. I think you could actually get hijacked out of warp by npc players.
CCP, please put up a alternate server with the first version of Eve on it... we would have so much fun! ---
