I'm somewhat new, and I have a question about attacking convoys. Obviously if you attack a convoy in a high security system then the police/navy will come after you, and your security status will be lowered. If you attack convoys in low security systems, will your security status still be lowered? I assume that if the police aren't around, then they can't come after you. But when you travel back to a high security system then they will? Also, what kind of things to the convoys drop when destroyed? Is the loot worth the potential loss in security status? Does anyone have experience in this area?

A friend and me attacked a convoy yesterday in a 0.7 security system.
The police never showed up and we were allowed to dock at the same station (where we promptly sold the dropped stuff, hehe). The only thing was that our standing towards the amarr empire dropped with a whopping 2 points, and that the Imperial Armaments corporation doesn't like us that much.
If you hit a convoy in 0.0 security space, your faction standing aren't affected.

You can attack convoys in high security systems - cops won't come after you. Just make sure you are 55k from the sentry guns or they will shoot you.
Your security rating will not drop. Your faction rating will drop, though. You can increase it by killing pirates in that faction space.
Convoy ships do attack back usually, but from my experience they will rarely attack if you have good range on them. The trick you can use is - bookmark the convoy, if it attacks you - warp out and then warp back in. They won't shoot you at least till you attack them again.

You can take quite big faction hits for raiding convoys. I have not noticed a change to my sec status though. It might change but I am under the impression it is modified by PC interactions only. Might be wrong about that though.
Convoys drop trade goods mostly but some drop modules too. If you can do it without getting you ass kicked, which aint that hard, it can be quite profitable. Just haul the trade goods and sell them for a good price. You got them for the cost of your ammo.
This may change if having bad faction with an NPC corp ever prevents you docking with them that is. At that point I will be regretting my actions big time. Who are you to tell me to question authority? |

Thanks for the answers! So I guess a good strategy would be to go far away from home and attack convoys there, so that the factions which I might do buisiness with won't end up hating me. Do pirate factions have convoys? Are they heavily defended?

You're going to do much better attacking and killing NPC pirates. Here's why:
1. Positive sec rating hit 2. Bounty 3. Items dropped
You can come away doing very well because many of the NPCs will drop ammo and modules that are useful for your ship.
Granted though they will shoot back at you :)

The first one I hit never got a chance to fire back (he was alone). The second (group of 4) took some potshots at me when I accidentally ripped one of their convoy buddies apart. Nothing serious though.
Some will have convoys though, and as you could guess, they would be carrying some nice kit.
I hunted in 0.3-0.5's, and I never took a faction hit, just -0.35 per ship hit from the corp. And that goes up 0.1 every day.
Like guy above said, unless you're lucky, you won't get much more than a stack of 50 guns, or 2000 tobacco. (my best two so far, both pulled in around 80k).
I prefer pirates, because of the insane money people will pay for rares atm :)
But if I see a convoy, I'll probably take a wander over, and see if I can replicate that bug where you lock target on the fattest one, and pound him with ordinance till he explodes, and then you collect his guts... Or maybe that's not a bug.

I attacked a convoy and I am now repaying my debt. The only way I have learned to fix the - faction status is to do agent missions. But it takes alot of them to do it! My rating is going back up slowly but it is really not worth the hassle and -19% agent status also... if you are a in a corp it will damage the entire corps standing to that particular vendor. Something to think about.

Convoys drop goods based on where thye are coming from,, if looking for minerlas hit a convoy coming from a construction or going to a construction station,, weapons Naval assembly,, drones Mining or storage places etc...
It may be wrong but that has been my experience when hunting convoys..

Unless CCP changed things, that's exactly what it is. The convoys are stocked with the goods normally being sold by the station they come from. So if you want a better chance at getting missiles, attack a convoy that came from a station that normally sells missiles. If you want radioactive goods, attack a convoy from a station that has NPC supply of radioactive goods.
There was a limit on the value of the items the convoy would carry. So attacking a Pator Tech convoy might get you skills, but don't expect to find Jump Drive Operations in them.
