Patch is one thing, the final installed size is something else, after decompression. _________________ - Rivqua - --- R.E.P.O. --- |

Also, if you're downloading it for the Classic Client, don't forget that you're essentially downloading ALL of the premium client aswell, since SiSi only runs Premium Lite, not Classic.

Nothing new here, move along. Also if you think 4.4gigs is bad you should check warhammer online or Supreme Commander Forged Alliance both at about 10gig. --- O.P. is made of fail c/d.

The current full installer is ~2.3GB. The current TQ Premium to Singularity patch is ~1.3GB. The size of the client on your HD after installing/patching up to current Signularity is ~4.5GB

Edited by: zibelthurdos on 01/03/2009 11:21:55 nowadays an installation that size for a game this complex is not unusual
not for nothing but the last WOW installation before lich king is 9.04 gigs
edit: sory 7.82, i was counting the installers which are kept. ----------------------------------------------- Don't think of it as dying, Think of it as leaving early to avoid the rush |

Yeah and that ****ing game STILL has some of the lowest poly-count models and lowest-res textures of any game released in the last 5 years, yet it takes up so much space

With procedural textures and in general much heavier use of procedural gaming, it would be possible to melt all the stuff necessary to way below 320 MB, maybe even below 100 MB.
But since they need support for shader model 2 and didn't make shader model 3 the minimum requirements (which was good by the way), we won't see heavier use of procedural textures anytime soon. Until then we have to live with these really big downloads.

Procedural Textures have nothing to do with Shader Models.
.kkrieger is an entirely procedural FPS with real-time-lightning, fits in 100kb, and it uses SM 1.3 ... and I really think they should boost T2 plate HP.

Better than Age of Conans 35 GB or so after patching. during the beta it was even worse with the client not cleaning up patched stuff, I once cleaned it out after the client hit 60 GB.

.kkrieger precalculated the textures and meshes and didn't calculate them in real-time.
You can save a lot with precalculation, but the true power of procedurally generated textures becomes visible when you do the generation in real-time. For example zooming in will always give you full details up to insane amounts.
And it is not only about textures of course. Meshes for models can be created in the same way, missions and so on...
A pity that CCP isn't following this approach, much prestige could we won there besides a lot of development time saved in the long run. Also scalability with procedurally generated content is more or less perfect and comes naturally without ay additional overhead.
But yeah

And, will it be made available on cassette?
