BoB only lost because of the whole free BPOs crap being discovered. Face it, they were face-rolling their keyboards on their T1 cruisers and still killing half the galaxy who were rolling around in shiny T2 ships.
Maybe a lot of you don't remember back then, but I distinctly remember having our battlecruiser gangs dock up because of Thorax gangs roaming through Caldari/Gallente Low-sec. Were we scrubby? Sure.
But don't forget Band of Brothers is still the #23 alliance on battleclinic after it hasn't had any kills since November 2011 (1 kill), and before that August 2010 (1 kill) and BEFORE THAT June 2010.
Goonswarm Fed is 244 (GoonSwarm is 5357 if I'm reading the wrong one), and TEST is 5355.
If anybody is the new BoB, I'm really sad to say it is NC. (#26 on battleclinic) which is sad because any second now we're going to discover we had free BPOs or something and implode. Oh wait, we have another 4 years before that happens. See you guys in 2016 :p

I was there during that time and no BoB didn't implode due to the whole t2 BPO issue.
Even after Goons (rightly so, even if at some point there was some overreaction) spilled the whole issue in front of the community and CCP, BoB held quite strong. After all they had a solid economical foundation and one of the best areas exclusively for them for a long time.
The reason BoB crumbled was another one.
The reason BoB was so much feared when roaming, was part the aura of the elite alliance they were at that time, and part the fact that they indeed have gathered within their ranks some of the best pilots during that time.
