Lowsec in a Freighter isn't so bad if you have a scout. No AFK and manual jumps are fine... Except when you bounce off the gate and can't jump for some crazy reason only known to CCP. You find yourself suddenly 7K from the gate and 5 reds appear in system. Locked, scrammed and popped even with scouts and a small escort.
It's not the loss I'm worried about and it was empty and insured anyway, it's the fact that the ship bounced off the gate and ended up 7K away before it would respond to any commands. Had it responded to my jump order, I would have been long gone before the reds managed to pin me down.
WTZ has some serious issues but it's the first time I've bounced off a gate that hard. Funny how a ship that can't do more than 90m/s can go from zero to 7K from a gate in a matter of 3 seconds while you spam the jump button like crazy.

Also, I think god killed a puppy when you made that name.

Which was docked?
We were actually wondering what happenned, as in how you managed to warp off station AND then get away from the gate. So kinda makes sense.

should have logged before you got aggro, would never have even appeared at the gate freighters take so sodding long to warp.
bouncing off gates is a bit weird seeing as you slip through planets, but thats EVE for you!

This, might have saved you. Always a good practice to turn on your autopilot once you have entered warp. Then when you get the message you are jumping click it off.
This removes the need for the mad scramble for the gate button. Not that it is full proof and will save you every time. But then nothing is in EVE.

Set your default warp-to distance to 250 meters or so. Reduces the chance of a "bounce" quite a bit.

And increases your chances to land 500m short of jump range at most inopportune moments.
The autopilot solution is more reliable.

Nope, good advice. When you are in the warp tunnel you turn on the autopilot. The allows the server to handle the jump at the gate faster rather than you doing it manually. Then as soon as you see the 'jumping' text appear above your movement controls turn the autopilot off again to avoid the auto warp on the other side.

Maybe he's referring to setting your AP to the next system en route/setting it as your first waypoint, then turning on AP while in warp to the gate so that you don't actually have to press the jump button to go through. |

Don't do this. It's not only a crap tactic- it can be defeated.
If you do it against someone who wants your ship dead, you WILL lose it.

^^This is another mechanic of the game you don't seem to understand, Especially if you're flying a freighter thru a pirate corps home turf. If they didn't catch you where they did, it is likely you still wouldn't have made it out of the next system. Freighters are slow mate, Intel is fast, and you may never know who's scout your scout is passing by in space

He was in his own's ally's "turf".
Also next system wasn't high sec, but it was a dead end low sec with station. We were jumping in from another side and warping to his gate around the time he landed on it, would we be able to catch him on the other side if he managed to jump is questionable.
Anyway, bouncing off makes sense now, we really weren't sure wtf were you doing at that time.
