Hi,
I read the guide on moon mining. Typically all exploration guides point to using covert op ships to get past gate camps so you can do the mining. This is well and good, but that's the point of finding a rich moon or gas cloud in someone elses territory?
Is it then possible to use these same blockade running ships to go and mine these resources without being blown to bits?

Edited by: Tandin on 02/03/2009 19:40:17 In order to moon mine you'll have to set up a POS. If you set up a POS in a system where an alliance claims Sovereignty, everyone in that alliance will immediately get a mail with the location and a POS bash will be scheduled by the alliance heads.
You could do it in NPC 0.0 regions (syndicate, outer ring, venal, etc) with a blockade runner making trips to haul the POS, Fuel, Mods, etc.

And good luck finding a worthwhile moon that is not already being mined...

The answer is that not all 0.0 space is governed by players and some is governed by rats? Thanks.

Yes some space is NPC controlled and is thus a tiny bit easier to operate in. However the same 0.0 rules (or lack thereof) still apply, so be prepared to be dodging bubbles and attacked on sight. <-------------------------------------------------> "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." -Albert Einstein |

Exploration in 0.0 isn't just finding moons...
Plexing and signature sites are worth a look in. There is plenty of juice to be squeezed... if you stick to NPC 0.0 Space you will find you are far better off as you can dock and change from a covops to a combat ship with ease..
Perhaps some syndicate alliances might take you in.. or better yet.. join a sov holding alliance and start mining... but considering your noobness, i doubt you have the isk or the experience to handle such ventures.

I'm not looking to do this for a few months since as you mentioned my skills aren't close to what I'd need.
Good to know though. This means w-space isn't going to be only for player run corps and alliances.
