Are they still planning attribute repec for only once a year, thats seems fair. Curious.

Thats what they have in SiSi at the moment.
Funny, once I thought about it, I had a little chuckle. CCP has some serious balls. The only developers I know who have the gumption to put in a mechanic that takes a full year to come back around.
Most developers don't assume you're going to be here for more than three months, and so they *reward* players who stick around. CCP just assumes you'll still be around.
Hahahah ... balls man. Brass one's.

But by doing so they risk the Skills forum being full of advice of annual training plans for new players, which of course would be optimal in terms of SP but would also mean that they'd have to wait for a year and a half before having any fun.
Hardly a good customer retention plan in my view.

I would almost say that the bloke who refuses to train something simply because his attributes aren't prime for it ... doesn't deserve to be retained, hehehe ...
Despite all the wonderful skills we have now, and while there might sure be a lot of Achura around, there are still plenty of players who look at all those min-maxers and laugh in their faces.
And new players are CONSTANTLY being told to train learning skills. Some do, but many don't even start until their third or fourth month in game. Sure, it may be faster, but they're smart enough to do something that's FUN, over just whats most efficient.

I do not even need it on a yearly basis. I will use the feature only to even out my horribly high charisma and that's it.

Free, as in, they don't cost 5 mil ISK

Do we have to pay 5M ISK? Such a small sum hardly seems worth bothering with. 500M might give a few pause for thought.

I'd simply make it cost 200 mil ISK (3 free for newbies post M10, 2 free for people under 10m SP from before M10, 1 free for all rest) and reduce the cooldown timer down to something like 3 months or even less.

i am pretty sure you can start having fun WAY before you can fly that titan or whatever skillplan takes a year and half...
don't forget that new players tend to be more easily amused than veterans. back when i was a newb (starting with 30k SP btw), i spent three months running level 1 missions and trying to mine in frigates/destroyers before i piloted my first cruiser
more realistically, and especially with double training speed and the free respec, they should be able to fly cruisers in under a month.
besides, i don't think even as a veteran i could put together a skill plan that soley uses any 2 attributes unless i wanted to cross train all battleships to level 5 or something... i am pretty sure it would not be worth doing that "just because i could get more SP". there is balance between optimum SP gain and usefulness of a skill plan.
there is a big difference between training the main character for a new player, and training a garage alt for your mothership.
~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~ Take away the risk and it would make flying around in space utterly pointless.
Take away the flying around part and you make EVE into a space themed spreadsheet application. |
That's my point!
But the problem is that the skills forum will tell new players the opposite, just as they already often tell players to train up all of their learning skills to 5 ASAP.
As such new players feel as though they have to choose between investing for the future and having fun now - even if the choice is an illusionary one.
I can quite happily spend a year training purely Perc/Will skills without feeling as though I'm missing out on anything or training things that I won't use.
maybe theyre *that* confident in their product? You know, for all the whiny, *****y, "I QUIT" posts that come with every patch. I'd say maybe 10% of those tards ACTUALLY quit. They must be doing something right.
Still, I'm already fully-trained titan pilot with DD operation level 5 and can pretty much already do everything I want to do, so it's probably coming too late to be of any real use to me. Already did Capital Ships V.
