Edited by: Rangpoq on 03/03/2009 14:48:15 I dont understand how I can be so bad at this game but every time ive played this game, i get to this mission and there is just no way to complete it. Today I started playing a new Minmatar pilot that I have designed to be mainly a mission pilot, get to the objective and decide ill try to manually fly and kite one mob at a time, problem is with turrets to get close enough to do damage im taking damage from minimum four enemies. This is all fine and dandy but this mission is the followup to the tutorial, am i missing something?
Is there a way to identify difficult missions ahead of time? Either I am doing something completely wrong or this is just really tough.
Thanks

Well first I am special noob. I started when the game first came out and hated it, of course quit. Well fast forward until last month and go in the Steam 21 day free trial, done the tutorial , done this and that. Now I am in love with the game, and just bought a Osprey a couple of days ago and opened a second account.
But to answer your questions, youÆre not bad; youÆre just not using the right strategy.
It depends on your situation to adjust to what you need to do.
First you need to know the range of your weapons and drop off rate. I never done manual flying, but what I do is lock on the nearest target. Hit him and hope I can pull one or two friends. Then go into the opposite direction and orbit them (depending on my max range and fall off) once they get close.
Have you trained any of your skills or you coming straight out of the box?

Part of my problem is strategy, but im also just really surprised that this mission is so hard because its given just after the tutorial. Ive been training mostly my learning skills and today I trained some mechanical skills so that I could get an armor repairer etc. The problem I am having though is the massive amount of damage im taking, not the damage im dealing. Once I engage its all I can do to warp away.
Im currently looking for some charts that will show resistances and what should be used against them. I see that the main damage dealt here is Kin and Therm but im not sure what I should do against those types...

After the tutorial missions what missions you get is totally random. The Score is not a mission that is automatically given.

A few tips for a rookie mission runner:
- Stay 10km away from frigates
- Stay 15km away from destroyers
- Stay 20km away from cruisers (if possible)
- Fit an afterburner on frigates/cruisers
- Know your ships bonuses, fit accordingly
- PvE is about endurance, don't blindly rush in
- Use weapons with a 10-30km range w\ various ammo
- Learn about trajectories
Obviously some of the rules above change as you skill up, ship up, or go onto L2s, L3s, etc. _______________________________________________

Here's a few low skill point builds for frigates as well...

Edited by: Ubik Null on 03/03/2009 17:48:03 Disregard, I see you workrd it out. I was 2 minutes late.
As far as estimating the difficulty, in general, the higher the reward/LP the more difficult (within any level of missions).
I looked at your load out. No missile launcher? An empty mid slot? I suspect you just do not have the fitting skills yet, judging by the low fit requirements for your ACs. I'd also get rid of the recharger. If you choose to use ACs (Iridium) I usually added a sensor booster so I could engage my launcher at a reasonable distance. I'd suggest artys, as mentioned above, but I suspect you don't have the tracking skills yet - although ACs will work. Work up your support skills and give it another go. Eventually you'll waltz through the lvl 1 missions. At your level of SP you might consider losing the T2 burner for now as well. You will lose it.
As stated, the missions are given out randomly, not in any hierarchy of order.
In EVE, you have the right to die trying.

I highly suggest you not use ACs for missions. Their very short range means you will be within range of multiple enemies whose damage you cannot endure, as you discovered.
Instead, consider fitting artillery cannons (the long-range projectile weapons). These will give you more than enough range to hit the enemies solidly from 10-20km away, which should allow you to stay out of their major damage zone. Your tactics in themselves were good (focus on one enemy at a time and stay away from them), but your weapons did not match the tactic and thus you couldn't carry it out successfully.

This is kind of what ive realized today, and thats fine because im new so im not too worried. The weapons I have fit to my ship are causing me to get in really close to groups of enemies which is doable, but its much much harder. I have been having a pretty good go of things now though because doing things like I was taught me how to be much more effective using the tactical map to plan and execute kind of hit and run style attacks. Anyway im having a blast although still feel pretty lost, but I guess thats what makes things fun :D
Oh and yeah I only started playing yesterday so my skills are still really low in many important area, also because im focusing on learning off the bat. So im just working with what I have for the moment.
Thanks again everyone

He is already way ahead of you.
He even included a link in his original post to that site so that we would know exactly which mission he was having trouble with.
