I bumped into a noob flying around in Space, I convoed him, as new players are rare these days. It soon transpired that he was from China, after a few google translate led exchanges it transpired that he said EVE China was closed. I went on eve offline and found this:

What happened to eve china?
Found out: http://news.mmosite.com/content/q/2012-01-17/chinese_eve_online_to_shut_down_servers.shtml
So I think something with the hosts of the servers going bankrupt... I think they are going to find a new hosting partner or something thou. |

Knowing CCP, they'd forget to update EVE's clone after the first death. |

Certainly looks like it, it was probably costing them too much to run with so few subscribers. The Chinese clearly dont like making their own content in a game it has to be fed to them or they loose interest.
Either that or the Chiense governamnt didnt like their citizens mixing with Americans and Europeans through a game so they forced CCP to close it down (this does actually sound plausible) hmm |

as far as I know the publisher that worked with CCP in China went bankrupt, and cEVE is offline until the new publisher gets it back up and running, which is supposedly in a couple months.
Until then there's been a small influx of serenity players on TQ checking things out, and the general response I've seen is pretty positive, though many don't think they will stay due to UI language barrier

I've heard great tales of Non-chinese eve players going on the chinese server and having a ton of fun. Things are different on there. |

googling said the original company in agreement with CCP that runs CEvE filed a bankruptcy few months back. Apparently checking eve-online.com.cn and it seems they have found a new partner based in shanghai to run EVE, and even better, CEvE used to be only updated to Tyrannis, now they have fully updated to Crucible.
though I still met players from China telling me CEvE is closing server in June, which I doubt it is still true but who knows.
One thing for sure is that CEvE ain't getting the Dust treatment. |

Well, they are also in the midst of a nice crackdown/'Party" crusade, so that might also have something to do with it. Not sure why they still try to control how much information their general population can get from the interwebs...there are just too many sources to filter. |

Well that's not entirely true, you see, you have the world.... and then you have china. If india were to join EVE, they would need a separate server for that too.
Reason 1: China and india both have about as much inhabitants as the rest of the world combined
Reason 2: In china, bots are of organic nature ( if you know what i mean ) If a man speaks his mind in the forest and no woman hears him, is he still wrong? |

I'm not quite sure, but i think the writer needs a big smack on the head. They are translating the Chinese to English, and the Chinese name translates into "star wars" in English, they don't mean "Star Wars(TM)" they mean wars amongst the stars kinda.

or its the fact that China doesn't allow a whole bunch of things on its internet. Mostly thing that we try to do and say.
It has nothing to do with size of india's or china's population, I am sure there are indian players in eve allready. - [yellow]English only please. Zymurgist[/yellow] |

Funny how CCP loves to announce its accomplishments, but its embarrassments are always buried. The linked article offers no useable information, btw.
