Many of you wrote back with great enthusiasm for the idea of more open communication between players in 0.0 going a long way toward laying the ground work for a future beyond the old grudges. I hope that you will continue your efforts (as I have) to bring a more civil element to the bitter wars of 0.0 I know that it can be painful to lose ships and towers and all the elements like mods and anchorable structures that go along with them. I myself have lost a bunch, as anyone can see from our killboard! But I think it's really important to not allow the temporary frustration born from those losses to become a lingering bitterness and hatred that twists away the real point of this game: having fun. It is my belief that some of that anger and pain can be softened when both parties treat each other in a respectful fashion, which is why I have always been an advocate for respectful engagements between opponents. Remember that we are all human, and that we can connect with each other on that level no matter which corporation or alliance we happen to belong to. This is not just a collection of gratitude and pretty words, this is also a call to action! Join with me to create a more civil EVE, an EVE where people treat each other with the respect they deserve as human beings. Forget about alliance or corporation tickers, don't judge people by those- they're ephemeral! But the feelings generated by your actions on each other will last. I want to thank all of you who have stood against us in this game. You have helped to give us focus and channel our efforts. I hope that you understand that without you none of this would have been possible. Fly safe, friends. A very well written response to the OP. I truly hope that it is true. I am not really a "love in" type, but I know that in the game, the best times I have had and the most fun I have had, have been when I have respected my enemy. In the past Goons have not done this. It quickly becomes easy for goons (myself included) to start to live up to the way that people who oppose us project us to be. Sure it's easy to be mean in local and harsh on people's real life issues as we and our opponents have done in the past. I honestly have felt a little bit misrepresented and misunderstood when it comes to my online persona in Eve online. I never saw goons as being childish and immature in a setting that it wasn't meant to be ironic. Sure there have been exceptions, actually there have probably been many exceptions over the years but in a corporation this large there are bound to be. I can say with experience that the average goon, and the vast majority of goons are a caring bunch who honestly take care of their own and allies at any chance given. I also know that a lot of us are extremely happy that we are actually starting to be understood throughout the eve community as something more than a bunch of kids looking to grief people.

The hard facts are everyone gets tarred with the same brush. You wanna be taken seriously then join someone like MM or Razor for example, you'll never be treated seriously in the alliance you're in.

I haven't checked it in a few days and I must say that revisiting it has given me inspiration to form a proper response. Allow me to break the forth wall here for a moment. Oh yes, Goons do have an image that is broadcast throughout the EVE community at large, one that is of ill repute and chicanery. And yes, this image is not an accidental one nor is it unsupported by those that identify themselves as "Goons". There is a reason for this, much like the reason there are "bad guys" in Professional Wrestling. Drama and spectacle to draw the attention of the audience. We Goons play the heels of EVE not for personal reasons, but because it is part of the show. Like the heels in pro wrestling we resort to dirty tricks to achieve "heat" to engage the EVE community, and our actions on public forums or local chat are only ways of getting "cheap heat" (similar to a live promo cut by the villain when he insults the home sports team). Our hopes is to allow "babyfaces" to step up and challenge us the heel champions, preferably in a venue comparable to a major pay-per-view such as WrestleMania where we can provide all involved with a historic match that will be talked about in the years to come. But also like the heels in professional wrestling, we try to keep kayfabe, and behind our colorful spandex attire, luchedore masks, facepaint, and gimmicks we are people too.
