Hey guys I've just gotten back into scanning (after the tutorials) and brushed up on my archeology stills but not exactly sure of what I'm seeing when I scan down sites.
Can anyone explain to me the difference between an anomaly, a cosmic signature, a radar/ladar/mag site and a DED site?
Also for DED sites I know they're rated out of 10 but are there any decent ones you can get into in high sec with a BC?
Cheers! |

Anomaly - pure combat site with a chance of faction spawn/escalation. You need ship scanner or scanner probes to find anomalies. Just kill all of the rats and at the very end you might get faction spawn and/or escalation to some DED site. Signature - Wormhole, Rad/Mag/Grav/Ladar, DED plexes, unrated plexes. You need scanner probes to find signatures. Radar - here you find stuff used in invention ( needs codebreaker ) Mag - here you can find salvage ( including T2 ) and T2 rig BPC's ( needs salvager and/or analyzer ) Ladar - gas cloud harvesting Grav - hidden asteroids for mining ( might sell the location to some miners if in hisec ) DED - rated combat site with final overseer or overseer structure, which drops Deadspace loot ( Corelum, Pithum etc ) Unrated Complexes - combat sites with chance of escalation that can lead to Deadspace loot ( you can also get faction spawns here )
DED1 - DED4 -> hisec DED4 - DED6 -> lowsec DED6 - DED10 -> nullsec
In hisec there are some limitations as to which ship hull can use acceleration gates. Some sites allow only frigs, some cruisers etc.
Disclaimer : All drops/sigs/faction spawns/escalations are totally random. You do 10 sites in a row and get nothing out of it ( very likely ) == working as intended You do 10 sites in a row and each one drops container full of Deadspace loot netting you billions ( not likely ) == working as intended |

Minor corrections:
1) You'll almost never be able to sell a grav site location, but who knows, you might get lucky. 2) Combat ladar sites exist and require a codebreaker. They can drop booster BPCs, booster reactions, very tasty skill books, gas harvesters, and implants. They also can spawn named rats with a chance of faction gear (though I've never seen them drop deadspace gear). |

1) True but it is always worth to ask ( got about 500mil for that when I was starting out and for a rookie explorer that's quite something ) 2) forgot about those sorry |

Seriously. 99.9% of those who buy one are in for this. There isn't anything left for you to do to Carebears. -áGo, kill them some more. I believe all combat Ladar sites are low/null sec. |

Nice post. There is a definite lack of resources out there that lay this all out clearly. When I first started doing exploration it took me untold hours to assemble the information laid out here. Maybe there are better guides since then?

I actually never found a ladar site in high- or lowsec space. I don't explore in 0.0 (unless escalation) and don't live in WHS atm.
Can someone confirm that ladars are absent in high and lowsec? |

Derelik Region (Ammatar) has Helix Nebula and Sister's Nebula types containing Lime Mykoserocin in High Sec indeed.
Azure Mykoserocin is found in Molden Heath, but it only has like 3 or 4 High Sec Systems.
Update: this may help. There are different types in each High Sec Empire. http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Scanning:Scan_Results#Ladar_Sites There isn't anything left for you to do to Carebears. -áGo, kill them some more. So does high sec, though I've only seen gas clouds there. The only catch is you have to be in a ladar region. For low/high, that's Aridia, Derelik, The Forge, Heimatar, Lonetrek, Molden Heath, Placid, or Solitude. |

For some sites (mostly highsec, but also some popular lowsec or nullsec complexes) you will find information quite easily. Others not so much. Speaking in the voice of Emperor Salazar: "Go out and explore!".
Lets imagine you find a patch of systems that is not much travelled by explorers, but interestingly provides you with a good number of complexes to run - will you share it with the others, who might be competing with you?
I will mention an example: There is a lowsec type of site, that is relatively easy and can escalate. If you get it to go through to the end you can find some of the more expensive modules (barring officer mods some of the most expensive ones in their respective group). Now there is much 'chance' involved in the whole chain and most people will usually just go for the rated complexes, however for someone that is adventurous and has not the best combat prowess it might be a good thing to do these type of complexes. The Information on how to do this site can mostly (not for some factions) be found quite easily, but as it is mostly not so popular, it doesn't attract so much attention.
Also: don`t be afraid to get ships blown up, especially by npcs
