ITS KISS
Keep It Simple Stupid
Why try and make a program change to something that already is doing fine. If you feel the insurance will not cover your lose then dont buy the item. It all will equal out in the end.
Big government falls under its weight----- USSR ----- You can not control a free market with controls. Let the buyer beware and supplier try to make as much as he wants.
I feel Insurance at all was a bad concept. I feel there should be zero insurance and all items on a ship should take damage. Why would turrets on the outside of your ship not take damage when you goto stucture and your Armor is GONE????? --------------------------
Garsh ma it soo cool killing people in there space thingies |

So I should just continue to be happy paying my monthly fee, and never be able to own anything but tech I stuff...

Great idea, wish I would have thought of that...
I guess most of you can "settle" for something that is substandard...
I cannot... I guess that is why in RL there is only one person I rely on to get the job done, myself...
If the DEV's think the current system is "fine" Then they are giving up... That's weak, IMHO... ------------------------------------------------ "for piece sakes!" |

Fine, my idea sucks rotten eggs I guess...
I'm looking for more ways to enjoy this game, I figured flying a Claw once in a while as opposed to my Rifter or Stabber would be fun.
Not being able to use tech II equipment until it's obsolete cause my bank account rarely exceedes 5 mill is not fun...
But hey, if that's the way it's going to be, oh well...
I don't see why I can't save my money for a nice toy, and then insure it... ------------------------------------------------ "for piece sakes!" |

I say scrap the entire insurance system, because it's to easy to exploit even now.
Someone with lvl5 Productions skills and a ME20 BPO can easily produce and fully 100% insure certain popular ships anywhere from 5 to 10 mil under the production costs.
This is why "I lost my ship <insert reason>" threads get flamed so much. Anyone without full coverage insurance that engages in high risk activities is a fool. 2005.01.21 05:09:06combatYour Tachyon Beam Laser I perfectly strikes Blood Priest, wrecking for 533.1 damage. |

So let me get this straight...
Dev's to players: "We created a broken, exploitable system, and now you're screwed cause we don't want to make our brains hurt by fixing it."
Players: COOL!
wow...

the last thing this game needs is more dependencies, more rules, more control and less freedom
the chaotic erratic nature of the player driven market is one of Eve's greatest assets
Seconded.
Original post, bad idea. Definately not needed. Current insurance system NOT broke, as was suggested.

If anything needs to be changed, it's to make max insurance cover 80% or so as opposed to 100%.
Playing Eve entails risk. Insurance to mitigate that risk is fine, but in the end, don't risk what you can't afford to replace.
Example. I have a full rack of named 1400's... however, I currently think the tempest sux (agree or not, it's my opinion) .
Result = I don't feel comftorable using those turrets given what I feel to be to much of a risk based on current ship balance, so they sit safely in my hangar.
In eve, you have to run your own risk assesment and determine what you feel comfortable losing.
Just my 2isk.
Evolution..... Just when you thought you were winning.

personally i'd love to see some player insurance/loan/bank companies start up, though it would require some coding to prevent alt scamming etc.
maybe the core funds could be protected (i.e. a non-transferrable wallet) with only the profits being available for either re-investment (interest rates on savings) or corp use (if it were purely a loans company)

I don't think we need more insurance, but we rather need some alterations on the current one. First of all, I don't understand why the price is still the same even if you keep your ship alive for months or you blow it up each day. I don't understand why the insurance corps ain't broke yet. Or else they are causing an insane inflation since it seems like they make the money they hand out to the victims of a sudden ship blow up.
The price for the insurance should increase if you blow up you ship often and decrease when you manage to keep it alive the entire period (called bonus). Of course, this will cripple most of the corps at war, but war isn't profitable for others than the ones that are in the weapon business. You could however have a "war insurance" that is used only if you are certain you will be blown up. It will not alter your bonus at all. Even if you manage to stay alive. The price should be pretty steep. Something like 40% of the ship value, but payout should also be pretty close to 100%.
This way we should be able to stop the inflation a bit, since the only ways of values leaving the game is ship loss, podding and quitting. Or people selling to npc at a loss of course.

Something needs to be done...
I tend to think the ones who ignore the problem are the ones who have hundreds of millions of ISK at their disposal, the powergamers...
If I have to pay the same monthly fee, and have to spend 99.99% of my time mining to pay for lost ships (because the bogus Tech II lottery & market causing PC monopolies), or only be able to fly tech I frigs & cruisers. Why bother? It's a freaking GAME, I come home from work to relax & have fun, not be told that I can't because I'm not a powergamer.
I'm not saying I should be allowed to have every ship and module in the game, no. I've never owned a BS, and probably never will, I will never have that much ISK...
But looking at how much INTY's are supposed to cost, and be insured for, I should be able to afford to operate one. But the game is broke, and I can't... NO FUN FOR ME...
I'm not going to buy an INTY and stay in Empire with it cause insurance won't cover a substantial portion of the loss, that's BS...
I like the idea of NPC's setting the prices for Tech II equipment, but not flooding the market...
Allowing the few who own the Tech II BP's to control the entire market is assinine... ------------------------------------------------ "for piece sakes!" |

I am not bothered about insurance I would be happy to see it abolished, the only reason I can see a use is it is a way to remove isk from the game. I am far from a power gamer I live to my means and mine or sell as much as is needed to fund my one ship. If I lose that I go back and mine for a new one.
So please do not disregard us who are not power gamers in your flawed arguement.
