I think we should have the ability to fly our ship with mouse, keyboard or joystick. it could be nice counter to blobs and it would makes peeps that want to pvp engage alot bigger gangs/fleets than now, because the pilots themself got more control over the fight instead of it is stats of modules that decides the outcome of the fight. Imo it would allso make pvp alot more fun and interesting instead of the "press optimal orbit, aktivate all guns and modules, then go pray you win" not that it is the only the pvp form today, its just because of the sucky shipcontrol and cluelessness of current ping that you end up spending so much time atm on controling your ship that you forget to do alot of the other options you got during the fight.
this game is allso very affected by latency, fleet wars, blobs etc but we dont got an option to see our current ping, we should have that, so a person dont start an engagement with sucky high ping or the guy that is trying to outfly another guy knows when he clicks his ship in a direction it will first move towards there in 5 sec or whatever the latency is at that moment.
i dont know if the "ship control suggestion is even possebly(how do i spell it ? )" but id like to see it happend. the latency one should not be any problem to make happend and i dont understand why it aint there in the first place.
sorry for the wall of text and the bad english.

Direct control requested before, denied before. Reason is the overwhelming Dataflood.

i am doing ok so no need to lose your hardearned cash on bets. 90% of the peeps i have faced in pvp so far in the game have used that to play out from.(high sec, low sec, 0.0, even npc 0.0 its still a very common stratgy)
btw i mentioned it as common stratgy, didnt say anything about i do it, just figured that more ship control would give players themself more ways of fighting a match(because the good players then will be able to utterly own the newbs that just do the orbit, aktivate guns/modules and go pray, and then they might realise that there is more to the game than stats on your ship/modules) and that might give less blob fights and more fun pvp.
but anyway if you just want to troll around, be my guest knock you self out.

I agree, I would like to see more skill involved in actually controlling the ship rather than simply stats.
Would much rather that than walking in stations.

The ship control thing would be cool, but very impractical.
For one, like Yamato said, this would require much much more bandwidth between you and the servers, thus increasing latency, especially in large fights.
And it wouldn't really fit EVE. It's more of a strategy game than a first-person (or rather, third-person) shooter.

Edited by: WillageGirl on 05/03/2009 03:31:22 Latency and high request rates are only a problem if controls are implemeted one call to one move basis (like you usually have in first person shooters). However if CCP in their ultimate wisdom would give us more advansed maneuvers that take longer time to execute, the number of calls we have today would probably even go down. While server system node would be calculating about as much the network load would go down and behold, you could have considerable reduction in latency during heavy load situations.
On the otherhand, how many times are large ships controlled with simple staff interface in other scifi or in real life for that matter. They are controlled through navigation computers with preprogrammed maneuver calls.
Just something to give thread some diversity...

this is awesome. just make it interpolates where you are and updates it every couple seconds. also if you are using something that would increase your lag in fleet fights, then you deserve it. not using manual control would be the same as not having wrecks on the overview or having brackets off

it will be implemented as soon as THIS becomes common technology and we all get it in our homes.
10-15 years prolly.
