When your close to your ship you hear turrets(ONLY YOURS) and such fine. But when zoomed out it just makes eve bland without booms and pew pew. I demand no muffled sound when zoomed out. At least an audio option, something....

It makes sense that the further away you are from something, the more quiet it sounds. I see no problem with the current system.

None of the sounds really sound right yet. I'm just ignoring them, thinking they will be some of the last things to sort out.

This does make sense, until you realize that there are no sounds in vacuum and that your onboard computer is simply simulating sounds to help you in control and react faster.
At which point, having an option to simulate the sound according to the perspective of the camera, or the ship ... seems a worthy addition to me.

Add an option "Play sounds from ship's position" to make you switch that you either hear it from the ship point or camera point.

doh beat me to it, was going to say if it were realistic, there'd be no sound at all...

Seing as how the video that you are seeing, as has been officially explained, is from a large set of tiny video drones, you as the pilot should hear all the sounds from your ****pit (That'll get blocked), bridge, control center, whatever.
This means that you should not be able to hear other people shooting, only the effects of that shooting if it hits you. People would complain about that as well, but it would be much more realistic.
(But we are already banking for turns anyway, so space-based realism isn't always an objective.

I'd quite like the effect that Valve implemented into Day of Defeat : Source; wherein a sound outside of a certain radius was dampened to give the effect that something was happening far away... --- Have a rawr on me. |

Oh noes. I can't stand all the noise, and the UI volume settings are unfriendly, so I resort to zooming out when I am fed of all the noise. Please don't change this!

obligatry.. "EVE HAS SOUND????"
cant believe it wasnt in here already ;)
but i'll say this the muffled sound helps give the player a sense of distance from their ships

The camera distance being the sound volume control needs to be changed, period. It's always been stupid, it tears apart the sound / graphics relation in EVE (you are either playing with NO SOUND or you're playing at FULL ZOOM AND CAN'T SEE A GODDAMNED THING (yea I'm mad about it )).
Sound volume slider in audio settings, POR FAVOR.
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started. |

There is such a thing as 3D sound you know... That includes range from sound source. It makes perfect sense that if you adjust your listening position (which has to be your camera) further from a given sound source, it would be more quiet.
That said, there is a matter of tweaking the ranges such that sensible zoom distances still give reasonable sound output. I've already bug-reported one where they clearly got it wrong; if more people check this, there's a chance of it being improved.

Nope. Background story has this the other way around. You're in a soundproofed armoured pod and all sounds are neurally generated ala Matrix-style along with video by the ship's computer. It can do what it likes if it makes it better .

This is not the correct approach. The correct approach is 'Fix the damn volume sliders!'. On the plus side we do have more in Apocrypha than we did. ___ My views may not represent those of my corporation, which is why I never get invited to those diplomatic parties... Environmental Effects

Some other Games/MMOs with 3D Sound have a option "listening sound from character/avatar(ship) location".

But that wouldnt make a difference.. Either you'd have no sound if zoomed far out, or you'd have no sound if your SHIP is far away sniping (apart from your own turrets). Either way is boring, i want sounds like on Tranquility at the moment, always be able to hear explosions and pew-pew, just a tad quieter at a distance. But definetly not completely muffled out, hell no!

On a similar topic to noise/sound pollution....what about LIGHT pollution? Many times in PvE I find myself swiveling the camera away from those blindingly bright Nebulas just so I can see if my weapon buttons are all turned on (better now with the timer rings.) Even so, there's times when I'd pod my mother if I could just have simple black space with the normal, peaceful, sprinkling of stars.
By the way, kudos to the devs for finally adding another sound slider that actually controls the station sfx volume while docked. No wonder some of the Gallente seem half-crazed. I'd be too if I docked regularly at some of their stations.
Maybe give us the option to delete the Nebula.stuff - if this would fix it?

I agree 100% with the OP, while the feature of muffling the sounds over distance is neat. It is waaaay too sensitive IMO, All i have to do is zoom out a little bit and all of a sudden i hear nothing but the UI. It really should have a wider band. Only when i zoom out to 60% of max should all sounds completely disappear.
I don't like looking close at my ship but i like to hear when it fires as i use sound as much as i use my eyes. Most of the time i zoom out just far enough that my ship becomes a group of say 15x15 pixels so that i have a clear view but that means i don't hear anything on SISI. I run with hardware acceleration OFF on TQ just for this reason, that option is now missing on SISI.
There is another thing that bothers me even more than not being able to hear my guns, i run 3 accounts at the same time. I use the gate fire sound as an indicator that my character is actually jumping. So i saw that you implemented the "world level" slider and was like "OH! That is good!" and turned it up to 10.0, sounds where still a bit muffled but better than nothing. All was good until i docked and had to throw my headset off because the in station volume nearly blew my brains out.
Please fix this, it feels like i am playing eve in a swimming pool except the water is not water but cornstarch.
Also, while you are at it... Give the camera sunglasses! There is nothing wrong with the quality of the backgrounds but the quantity is definitely a problem, i actually read text in space but that requires me to find a dark spot first. On top of that, anything i need to see has to have the camera rotated into a dark spot just to be seen without having to take extra time looking at it. Once again, running 3 accounts at the same time... I don't have time to find dark spots all over the place or read white text on white backgrounds.
My opinions belong to me, you can't have them!

I'm amazed EVE still has terrible problems with sound. Literally every game released has sound, too, (duh) and it works just fine. Yet CCP can't seem to get it right. When running 2 clients I had to turn sound off on the second one or it blue screens my computer. |

I second a Sound "LOD" (Level of Detail) button just like the one for graphics on TQ Classic. If you toggle it, it turns of LOD, so all scenes are rendered with full detail. Should have a toggle like that, for SFX, so that when toggled (off), all sounds are played at same level regardless of zoom.
(For tactical purposes most of the time I zoom so that my max firing range (150+km) is the outer ring. But I want to hear my pew pew at the same time too!)
