Hi.
I am a student at Sheffield university and for my undergraduate dissertation I am conducting research into the relationship between real life and game life and I would like to interview some some EVE players for maybe an hour at most over the coming weeks.
The interviews would most likely be over MSN or similar.
I am most interested in talking to people who are in larger corporations and at least some people who are in a leadership position either ingame or in real life (neither of these parts are essential).
This is because I'm especially interested in similarities and differences in how we mix with other people in both settings.
I say ôweö because I am a gamer myself so anything I say about ôgamersö I am also saying about myself. EVE is my third MMO and probably my 10th online game. I'm just putting that out there because I've read some quite silly statements made about games and gamers recently and I'm not looking to do the same.
The results will primarily be in the format of a hefty dissertation document but I'll see if I can produce a shorter version later on to make available online.
For ethical reasons I can only talk to people over the age of 18. On another ethical note I understand EVE is a bit of a paranoid place at times so if anyone participating would like I'll happily change their character name as well as their real name.

Sounds like your selecting against a control group. Are you sure this study was vetted by academic peers? :)
I'm a nobody ingame and a nobody in real life, so I figure I'd make an excellent control group!

Oh I know how this starts. I've seen those films. Just come for a simple interview, next thing you know...well a lot of it would be killed by the forum censors so I'll just leave it at that.

Well I thought if I didn't mention it I ran the risk of getting nobody in those categories and if I did mention it I'd get at least some responses in those categories.
If I get enough responses I'll try and get some people in at least each category but I'm not really going for that kind of design.
The leadership part is much less important than the group part so yes, I would like to talk to you. I changed the OP to make it clearer.
I'm mostly working from Rubin & Rubin's "Qualitative Interviewing" (2005) and a couple of other texts.
This was okayed by my dissertation supervisor and the university ethics board.

I don't have a specific "X causes Y" hypothesis to test.
I'm more interested in what people have to say about a couple of topics so I'd like people with some experience of the topics.
That's why I'm not sticking up a questionnaire.

Have you thought about organising a Eve-Meet in Sheffield that way you could get to speak to people informally and watch thier real life Interactions.
Good luck with the dissertation, and up the OWLs down with the PIGS.

It's a good idea and I did think about it but those are quite complicated to set-up. Organising a meet when I didn't need to tape anything was tricky enough. OWLs? Is this a football thing.
