Where we stand: On 4/24, the LEGO CUUSOO, EVE Online Ships GÇô Rifter project passed into the review phase. To congratulate everyone doesnGÇÖt quite cover it. Czar brought a great idea to light. CCP and the EVE community showed tremendous support, making for a fairly quick run to the 10k supporters needed. This will hopefully open the door to many LEGO EVE models, but that decision is in the LEGO groupGÇÖs hands.
What now: What is happening now is a wait until June for the next LEGO review. A decision on pursuing the project into the development and ultimately production will be made by the end of the review process.
One ship: With one ship in review, it would seem likely that more would follow without much effort, but that may not be the case. If the LEGO group decides to only pursue a single ship, that is all the community gets.
Other ships: There are so many comments in the Rifter project saying GÇ£Cool, but I really want [enter favorite ship here]GÇ¥, so there is definitely interest for more. One way we may convince LEGO that we want more ships is to push multiple ships through review before the June review date. Best case: we get many ships. Worst case: we only get the ships that pass the review. We could wait and see what the LEGO group says, but that will take months, and then 3 months more to make our GÇÿresponseGÇÖ by pushing through more projects if needed. This could add another 6 months or more to when we see multiple ships. What happens is ultimately the communityGÇÖs decision, these are just my thoughts.
Finally, to make sure I am as transparent as possible, I should say that I am the creator of the Myrmidon CUUSOO project. I donGÇÖt know how else to show that I am not doing this for the money by saying this: If the LEGO group wants to create a Myrmidon model before the CUUSOO project passes review, I will cancel the project upon request. Also, if the Myrmidon passes review I will most likely give it to [insert legitimate aid organization here]. I just hope to see LEGO embrace this idea as a collection of ships, rather than a single model.
