Cool!
It's a shame they might become extinct, but well, circle of life. No-one would particularly notice. How many people do you know that have seen a whale up close multiple times? 族---族

Edit: And I'll tell you right now swimming with the whales is not as fun as it sounds, especially when there's no water around.

National Geographic just put out a documentary on them. It seems that they are increasing in numbers, but they are also finding that some Blues have been mating with Fin whales. It was a pretty good documentary.
This link shows the the interbreeding, between Blues and Fins, has been around since at least 1984.
They have evidence of increased numbers and mating, but they did not make it sound like there have been any significant gains as of yet. So the future of the blue whale is a little brighter.

It would be a real shame if Blues died out - I've seen a Humpback Whale [we rarely get Blues in UK waters] out in the Atlantic and it was damned impressive, so I can only imagine how awesome a Blue must be.

Goerge Orwell may have got it wrong that large corporations would merge and take over in his film '1984'. OK, so it wasn't corporations but something equally as large that were merging.
