How can one go about improving faction standings if they are currently crap? I am well below -5.0 with Gallente and fast approaching that with Minmatar. I would like to get that up to a point where I don't have to worry about them mauling me when I get into their respective regions of control. Missions aren't going to do it at this point. What else can be done?

Get a militia corp to let you join them then run plexes for promotions. You get faction standing from the promotions, and in a player corp in the militia, your standing only matters if you cause your corp to get dropped.

joining a gallante /minmatar milita corporation and doing plexes will result in standings for Caldari and amarr to drop...

Maybe I'm a dunce, but I don't quite see how doing missions for those agents helps. My alt is about -8 with Gallente, and rapidly approaching -5(ok, the decline has stopped due to mission apathy).
Don't you need the regular standing to use those agents? How can I use the Gallente agent if I'm at an effective quality of almost -5?

your at -8 and rapidly approaching -5 so youve found a way to raise your standings? and yes you can use those agents at -10

Dont you need to have 0.5 with a fraction to join its fractional war, or is that only to join the NPC corp for it?
