Dear CCP,
a big patch is in principle not a problem, but have you not considered that people have Eve on MORE THAN JUST ONE PC???????????????????????????????????
For crying out loud, do you really think I will be downloading nearly 2GB each for four PCs I have to update!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why have you removed the option of downloading at least the game client in one file, so I can run the installs from that locally? There are ISPs out there that cap your download volumes, you know?
Really daft I have to say. I only hope this new build is worth it and stable.

If there isn't, there needs to be.
You could also always just update it on one, then copy the game folder across the network. Or just have it on the one pc, and map it as a network folder to the other pc's to run it that way.

Yeah, this really sucks... I downloaded the patch, patched my first client, and then went to patch my second, and it said I had to download again. So I tried to copy the files, but they got screwed up somehow, and so Now I'm downloading the full client...
Why do you have to make it this complicated CCP? Sure, for the auto-download from the game client, great, but if someone downloads the patch manually, let them download the patch manually, and save it, and use it more then once....

I can't believe they've done it this way.
I'm still downloading the update, as the links weren't available earlier.
I'm still downloading (After making a Penne Carbonarra) and also have multiple clients to update.
Come on CCP, why the exclusion of a simple manual update?
Why nerf something that's ALWAYS worked?
Unlesss it was Amarr?
In my 6 years of playing I've never seen anything like it.

I have eleven separate installations of the EVE client across three separate machines. In the past I'd download the patch file, drop it on a thumbdrive and then manually patch the various installations one at a time.
Now I'm faced with downloading a 1.6 GB patch ELEVEN separate times?
Surely the folks at CCP, some of which have been reported to run up to ten instances of the EVE client on in-house machines must have seen this coming...

Thanks ArchMiner. I got it right on time it seems; now CCP is locking the threads and deleting the torrent links. And don't ask me why because i freacking don't know
Here is the torrent for the patch only (not the full client): http://dl.eve-files.com/media/0903/evepremiumpatch75883-84244_m.exe.torrent

the patch system works fine. you can always update one client and copy to the other computers that's how i do. Also you can download the patch DIRECTLY from eve-online website and apply to all your clients in a offline way. simple as that. i really don't know why you're complaining about this.

You don't see it? Well first of all, why do a cumbersome folder copy if you could have a single install file, as we've always had. Secondly, and if you look above you'll also see it mentioned, this method doesn't seem to work for all people and the stability of the client can be impacted.
That's why.

Edited by: Rampant RabbitP on 10/03/2009 20:59:26 The Eve patch system has worked ok for me on the latest attempt.
It would not work at all to begin with probably because everyone was trying to download it at the same time.
If you are still waiting just be patient with the official eve patch system as they will probably not support any other installations.
Eve patcher 4 hours for 1.389 GB If the average 40k peeps download the patch today CCP will have served 1.389 GB x 40'000 = 55560 GB or 54.25 TB
TBH I dont think they are doing that bad :)
Once you have a working installation just copy CCP folder to each PC, no matter how slow your USB stick is it will be faster that downloading it again

So my updater has been dl'ing for almost 2 hours now. Started at 60kb/s and has now went down to 12kb/s and is telling me I've got almost 24 hours still to go. I've just clicked the link to download the EVE_Premium_Setup_84244_m.exe from this thread and it's telling me less than 8 hours will do at around 60 to 80kb/s. I figure post patch all the settings will have disappeared again anyways so it'll take forever to reorganise anyways. Decisions, decisions...
I guess I should have stuck with an old 56k dial-up rather than our current and expensive high speed business line.
Dear CCP, FYTP.
OK decided to quit the updater. 5 hours until full download and getting faster as it goes.

this new dowload system is born out of a very narrow simple mind...
how da hell can they throw a 1.3 gb / 1.9 GB patch in the net which does not come as file but as autodownloader..
Totally agree with David LeBatas " For crying out loud, do you really think I will be downloading nearly 2GB each for four PCs I have to update!!"
Also if u do simple math, there is about 100k users that want the file within the next day... ( do not only count the 44k online mostly at the same time) with that 2gb file.. how da hell can ccp even think they can offer sufisticated server capacity to serv that mass of userneeds.. but yea why THINK FIRST about that and make 2-3 mirrors, why even use a Storage Solution Provider like Filefront WHICH HAS SOME EXPERIENCE with handling these ammoutns of data, when u can **** off hundrets and thousands of costumours instead......
Seems like CCP does not have any expirience with handling large data ammounts whatsoever...
Also. da really nice one which makes me post here is u take that 7 hours time to download the fckn Patch at 32-45Kb/s and then u run it, just to find ,WHEEEE BIIIG SUPRISE 3 CRC Errors, 1 file missing and the nice little chekcbox telling u to reinstall the game, after u ran all thru da updating the client process and messing the old build up. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH WDF do some crackheads think thats service ??
Users Posting Mirrows for the patch files cause ccp is not able to react to theyr unability to provide a proper service to its PAYING CUSTOMOURS..
its not liek we are talking about some free china grinder, but the fact is that even these free ****ty mmrpgs are able to offer diffrent download locations for theyr huge data.. so how come all these ppl in ccp that WE ARE PAYING sit on theyr buts and are not able to come up with solitions to simple thigs like "posting some large patches".........

oh their from iceland it's not their problem or haven't you heard?... everyone else is ignorant eh. jeeze did they even think about this large of a scale of a move. their living in dream land. man i have work and don't have time for this type of bs in this game. i live outside the game, this game is purely for entertainment and it's not a job nor should it be. it's their job to make it convenient for the players not ours. I'm not an eve worshiper i have a life myself. i bet the loose alot of players after this patch. i might be one of them.

To be fair, CCP's just locking the alternate methods because it's a matter of time before someone offers up a virus or keylogger and calls it a mirror.
Yes, it's a mess, but let's not make it worse by opening up that can of worms.

nobodies opening up a can of worms people are getting screwed. their should have been more planning. it's not fair to the players that have their time invested in this game.

Oh, I agree completely. I have a dialup connection, so imagine how much of a nightmare this is for me.
I'm just saying, imagine this problem, AND a virus flying all over on top of it. As much as it sucks, CCP simply cannot endorse or even allow the use of un-official mirrors or users providing alternate options. ---

So why the f* don't CCP up an offical torrent we can use?
Does this come as a supprise that people will start P2Ping when we get a crappy 300kb/s from the offical download? Comon that is 1/33 of my bandwith I am able to uyse get the it from the offical place so naturally I will look for something better...

... and that's another point. I am one of the lucky ones with 3Mbps DSL (but a 20Gig cap per month), but for anyone on narrowband sattelite or wireless connections (never mind ISDN or dial-up), this is a MAJOR MAJOR issue.
Maybe I missed it, but where was the warning that this patch would be THAT large? Ok, I should have smelled a rat, when I read about the new Premium Lite client. Still though. How about using some of that brainpower that went into Stackless I/O and other great developments and adopt, maybe, things from other MMOPRGs? Maybe a pre-release of the patch binaries a week before, so they can download in the background? It's not that this hasn't been done before, e.g. in that much maligned game called World of Warcraft and others?
Come on CCP, you're leading the edge when it comes to this game, but this was one stupid, shortsighted f... up of a patch delivery system. You know your client base uses multiple accounts and multiple PCs. It didn't take a lot of Stackless brainpower to figure out that an online exclusive install was not a clever option.
And to those harking on about the full download: It ain't that easy to find. I have it now, but it took some digging. CCP have been changing download links left, right and centre.

Edited by: Arth Lawing on 10/03/2009 22:30:13 OK another quick update. The full client download crashed to under 30kb/s and 15 hours to go. The updater i've just restarted now gives 2.5 hours at 150-200 kb/s. Been trying to download anything for 3.5 hours now. Gonna leave both running and see which gets done first, if either. atm it looks like extra bandwidth is going to the updater while they now send new clients by semaphore... Quick check now shows the updater going over 200kb/s!! zomgz so fast it's like writing down the code as they shout it over the phone!! Quick someone invent typewriters!! Seems CCP has finally figured out that the people who play the game might want to update...
Still this is supposed to be a 12Mbp/s line so it's hardly a great use of the bandwidth and technology we pay for to play eve as well as the sub.

You ppl do realize that you can simply copy the entire patched Eve install directory onto another machine with Eve, without having to patch the second machine?
I just copied my newly patched "Eve" directory onto a memory stick, walked over to the second machine, renamed the "Eve" folder on that machine (incase this failed) and copied across the new one from the stick.
Fired up Eve (directly from the new Exe) and "jobs a good 'un"...
Seems like a fuss about nothing here to me?

It helps to read the tread before posting.
1) Copying the folder doesn't work for everyone, many have reported issues with instability after that and
2) That doesn't take away from the fact that CCP has caused thougsands of players further downtime by dumping a massive patch on them without the option to download it prior to patch day
Very unprofessional in MMORPG terms
