When a bunch of classic guys realize they cant play anymore fill the character sale forum with key loggers and have fun because they no longer have a fear of being banned? -- Like the storm that's in the making, When the rumbling thunder runs, And the hills and valleys tremble. |

It's not like it wasn't said and written on a couple of occasions, that you need 2-years-old hardware now, instead of 6-years-old.
As sorry as I feel for those poor dudes: It shouldn't be a serious problem to update the hardware accordingly. You can get a suiting computer for less then 400 bucks by now.

Then you cant afford to be a gamer anymore and i suggest you go get a new hobbie, that dosent cost as much or anything.
In reply to OP just because you cant play means you would try to spoil it for the others who can still play, that would be pretty selifsh. --------------------------

Whilst my PC can play the new cliant, just, it is a laptop that I cannot expand any further.
I play eve because I am good enough at it that I pay with ISK, and it allows me to do so. I have no spare money to pay for the game and I certainly don't have enough spare cash to buy a whole other pc just to play one frecking game.
I am not alone in this situation.
So will all you guys who either have massively paying jobs and no major outgoings or a rich mummy and daddy who can buy you a new toy kindly stop lecturing us on how we just need to spoend a few hundred to sort it all out.
Kindly consider not everyone may be as lucky as you.
Thank you.

And wanting the game you play to have pretty graphics because you can afford it and screw everyone else who can't isn't being selfish?

This sounds like the Microsoft forums 1 week after Vista was released.

Well, people with non-upgradeble laptops are screwed indeed.
But honestly, as long as you have a roughly 3-years-old desktop computer, you should be able to get a suiting graphics card (and that's about all which needs a serious upgrade in this case) for around 20-30 bucks maximum. That's affordable in my world and I work hard, a lot, get a low wage and I don't have rich parents either.
I understand the frustration and ****ed-off-ness about it, but it was announced since more then 2 months by now, that the hardware requirments rise. Demanding the money for the paid accounts back now is kinda... you know?
P.S.: Just to mention it. I don't think this was the brightest idea of CCP, too.

A favourite phrase in Eve is "adapt or die"...
This doesn't just apply to players who fly fotm-fit ships.
It applies to MMO's.
Those that stay the same end up "stagnant", players get bored and leave but new ones don't join because other games offer more attractive visuals or whatever, then the game dies.
Eve has been evolving since its birth and CCP have finally decided that the obsolete SM1 code had to go because the overhead of supporting two game engines in the current economic climate is too much.
I find it somewhat amusing that someone with a 7 year old computer (i.e. it has a graphics card with a Shader Model of less than 2) can call themself a "gamer"...
Look at the console market: in 2002 a console owner would have had either a Gamecube, a PS2 or an (original) Xbox - would they be considered a gamer in todays market? - assuming they had not "upgraded" to a Wii, PS3 or Xbox 360 respectively?
I understand that not everyone can afford to upgrade to the latest and gratest but those who pay real money for their subs could take a break for awhile (8 weeks isn't a long time) to buy a new gfx card for their desktop - those with Laptops I feel for though.

What's with the assumption everyone who plays Eve considers themselves a 'gamer'? I play Eve. That's it. Nothing else. Other than that I use my laptop for writing, watching internet TV, reading emails and browsing the web. One of the things that first attracted me to eve was the very non-gamery ways you could play. I don't play counterstrike, or wow, or any of those other games that are, or were, so popular. Maybe they aren't any more. I don't care. I play Eve, and I'm a grown-up. And as a grown up there are far more sensible things that I should be spending money on.
Gaming isn't my hobby. Eve is my hobby. Get over it.
