WOW thank you so much guys. Medium setting FPS has gone for below 10 right up to 30!
But then I got ****y. I turned everything to max, restarted, and now when Eve starts I get a black screen and my early 08 Macbook crashes.
So now I can't get on it to turn back to medium settings. Any help on what I can do?
Cheers

Try trashing the folder ~/Library/Preferences/ EVE Online Preferences. CCPs tell you to do this if you encounter weird problems. You will however have to re-input the values you changed in the config file if you did not previously save a copy. No big deal either way.

A possible heat problem?
I understand there is an application for MacBooks to make the fan stay on full time. All you should need to do is allow temperatures to settle down, switch back on and return the values in the config file to normal. Fingers crossed you can get back in.

Originally by: Fairhand I was not able to detect ANY visual anomalies or differences, but I am sure our tech-minded folks can suggest what these settings may be affecting. It would be very nice to have "english" translations of what I have been turning off.
I know what each of them enables/disables. And I know what each of those features MAY be used for. What I do not know is how they HAVE been used by the cedega guys.
Of course I guess i could go and look at the source of the libraries they use (most being actually open source and therefore available). But even a non techie can understand that studying a previously unknown code that is probably equivalent to several thousand pages of text is something that one only does if he DOES need to use and modify it, not just for mere curiosity.
I may decide to write more about this argument (maybe in the other thread you opened or maybe even on a new thread). But for the moment I'm not going to.

According to LUCKYL4RRY, you need to leave the two FBO settings alone in order to run the Eve Client on High. Just adjust the other two VBO ones and accept the smaller performance gain.

I got it now. Thanks for the help guys. I'm still in awe at Eve working on the early 08 standard mac. Cheers!

I have to report very strange performance issues with the new mac premium client too. I haven't made detailed benchmarks yes, hope to find some time tonight.
On my system, the new client is very slow in windowed mode (1042*768, mining while at work ;)), but there are some interesting things: It becomes faster when the window is not placed under the dock and sometimes (but seldom) it runs really smooth. In fullscreen the client is VERY fast, I think even faster than classic.
System is a late 2007 MacBook Pro 2.2GHz with 128megs Geforce 8600M.
PS: in windows via bootcamp the premium client runs _very_ smooth in 1440*768. (JFYI)
