Never, ever, finish the last ship of the initial spawn at a site. I managed to find a "dangerous" wormhole in a 0.5, followed by a nice juicy arc-sal site with around 20 cans but only 5 frig & 5 cruiser sized sleepers protecting it.
Using 50 drones as cannonfodder (yes 50- great AI targeting there CCP  ), my trusty Dominix slowly whittled the initial spawn down to a single cruiser that was going down fast. Just as he's about to pop I think "Hmmm... the frigs didn't spawn anything new but maybe I should keep this guy alive just in case".
I call off the drones but it's too late- pop he goes and my overview fills with red... much spamming of the warp button ensued as I emptied the contents of my drone bay and ran... just managed to make it out in time but of course I didn't get to loot or salvage the wrecks of the sleepers that I'd managed to kill.
When I think that I could be hauling my sleeper salvage & loot back to high sec right now... **sigh**

Never kill the last one? I was lucky to get 2 salvos off, and the second was over my shoulder, 1/2 into hull, running like hell.

For those interested in soloing wormhole space:
Don't
Simple as that. It's a mechanic designed for the MULTIPLAYER aspect of eve. use it as such.

Thats a very large no viantha. I tried today with dual guardians with 4 perma reps each repping my dual rep tanked apoc. it died in 28 seconds with all the reps on it. oh and that was only the first spawn in anomoly which was 4 BS.

and when doing it in on sisi we had 6 logistic ships against the last warp in
with a combined fleet of 30
4 made it out

not necessarily, I thought I read somewhere they ranged from soloable to "omg bring in the caps"

Of course you won't be hitting any groups of battleships, but you will find fun and good loot if you can not find a group to join.

One tip I will say right now, do not expect to kill 1 battleship with your 1 battleship (I said expect).

There is content you can solo in a Caracal. Not much, and not easily, but you can.
When I did it, I got the new spawn while killing the third-from last Sleeper. I don't think the triggering rules are going to be as simple as "last ship down triggers the next wave."

We ran into a Drake soloing shallow end wormhole just fine.
As a side note, it seems the killboards don't yet accept wormhole info on killmails which is a shame.
