This is a small guide "How to find a wormhole". It is not a very indepth guide but I think it gives a nice overview. I think there are some more tutorials in the Testserver section ...
For better understanding you should - know what Triangulation is (wiki ) - read this great written Tutorial by CCP: link
Eve-Files: link Youtube: link
Note: The quality is not the best. But I think it is sufficient to see what I am doing.
If you have any questions - feel free to ask :)

I guess it shows how to be successful. It sure isnt the best way to scan. Guess that's a good thing; so that nubs can learn how to do it themselves.
Quality of the vid is fine. You can see everything you need to see. ------------------------ To make a megathron from scratch, you must first invent the eve universe. ------------------------ Life sucks and then you get podded. |

Really? I found this method very effective. And a lot of others do this the same way (dont question CCP Greyscale!!! ). I mean there are some things you HAVE to do. - Start with 1 probe to know if there is a sig - Use 4 probes for triangulation - shrink the probes until you get a result
At first I thought I could just drop 4 probes at one place - but of course this won't work with triangulation
And you have to shrink the probes in several steps (not just 32AU to 0.5AU) because most of the time you will lose your result.
Some arrange the 4 probes in a pyramide (which is indeed the best geometrical pattern) - but I think its easier to align them in a plane. Works fine.
But maybe this is a discussion for the science forum :)

well this certainly helped me, I lost it when I got down to 0.5au eventually but I got the hang of it at least and learned a few of the mistakes that can be made.
training those other skills up cuz i didn't even have them at 1 though. ------

It is trilateration not triangulation.

Oh in germany we use "triangulation" as an umbrella term (maybe because this was the first used/invented method). But you're right. It's about distances not angles.
They should call the skill astrometrics trilateration...

Excellent tutorial, and nicely explained!
I've been silently disappointed about how little time i've had for EVE in the last few weeks and i had test server trouble so i couldn't get to see any of this or play with it. Since then i've just wanted to know how to scan for wormholes since so much has changed, and thanks to your nice video i feel up to speed again.
So thanks!

Doesn't always work fine, I had 7 probes all at .25au overlapping a site, still couldn't get strength over 50%. Realized that having all the probes on the same plane was part of the problem.
Scanning for ships is a bit more difficult. found an uncloaked falcon warping to a POS in 20secs, took 45 minutes to find him again once he went afk in POS shield. :(
Also my process is to drop 4 probes at 32au, and 3 probes at 8au and then work my way in from there. As I get close I switch to 3 at 2au and 4 at .25au...

Yeah thats something I realized, too. But note that only the 4 best probes count for your signal strength... so no need for more than 4 probes in a pyramide. Oh and it's astonishing how much more sigstrength you can get by just searching the best probe-target range (its around half the max.range)

Nice info, tried it out and was easy and simple.
Just Curious > You say Recommended skills "Astrometrics 1" but to train "Astrometrics Pinpointing" you Need Astrometrics at level 4. Thought id mention it ;)

Lol thanks - I corrected it. I just looked at the values the skills give :)
