In 30 days or so my alt finishes fighters 5 & I have the ultimate objective to fly a Nyx.
Carrier 5 is a long skill train- the best part of 3 months. The decision is do it now or harden 4 more essential carrier skills to level 4 then do carrier 5 later.
I don't know if its just a physchlogical thing but to train only 1 skill to level 5 in 3 months feels a bit lame at present eventhough I know it will be essential to the Nyx in the long term. Unless everything ends up at level 5 then I'm not ready for the Nyx-at least this is the way I see it but you may have different opinions which you might like to share.
So- some advice would be good. Do I bite the bullet & do the level 5 now or do it later?
I suspect it will be at least a year before I have all the carrier skills at 5 to fly that Nyx a bit more safely

You didn't specify what your other skills are like. At the least, I would train JDC V first if you haven't.
Also, caution with regard to training Capital Armor Repair Systems. This reduces cycle time, so even with with max cap skills and most common Thanatos fittings, training beyond level III is not recommended. Going to level IV can make your ship non-cap stable with the rep activated.

I would advise you to invest in some implants if it's taking you 3 months to train Carrier 5. For me with +4s in (my normal pvp clone), it takes me 58d 8h for Gallente Carrier 5. Beyond that, make sure your remote rep skills are up to snuff, armor comps, other useful things to level 5 before you consider dropping into a Nyx or other large flying coffin. ---
Unless specifically stated otherwise, the opinions expressed in my posts do not reflect those held by my corporation or alliance.

Edited by: Raguun on 12/03/2009 08:57:44 If you are going to have Nyx in these 3 months, go for it. Carrier V is only worth training for MS pilots. But if you actualy dont have isk for nyx and wont have until skill is finished just train some good support skills which ppl suggested. JDC, CReps, Cremote reps, drone skills(T2 heavies?), max capacitor skills and so on. And yes train some learning skills and add +5 imps for that. Couse my regular pvp char +4 imps trains Carrier V in 57 days too.

Thanks for the good advice.
It is not about how fast I can get to the required skill levels. This character has +5 implants & can train the carrier skills must faster if so desired but it is more about two characters on 2 completely different paths where eventually they will work together with the skills they have complementing each other.
The time to get to any level is not so important as doing things right. The carrier pilot has a fair level of learning skills, certainly not maxed but adequate with +3 implants. He has near max cap skills & when fighters is finished will have 8.5 million skill points in drones including tec2 heavies & tec2 sentries.
Jump drives skills are at level 4 as is carrier at 4 with capital armor repair at 3 and remote shield transfer to be trained within a few months where the carrier will be fit to take its true logistical role.
The only benefit I can see with the learning skills is to do things faster which is NOT a requirement for this exercise but as I said is the 71 days to carrier 5 a wise investment. It seems that if I go the Nyx route then yes but if I stick with only the Thanatos, no- that was the answer I sought & thanks for that.
I did not want the thread to turn into "I can train skills faster than you" type thread & perhaps it was my fault for mentioning how long it takes to get to carrier 5.
