Or use Eve models for now and later on get rid of all the Eve stuff and replace it as best you can. You'd still end up with a really cool sounding economic model for an RTS. It's probably a good idea to ask the lead guy of the HW2 mod what he did before you release anything publicly if you can get ahold of him. Best of luck man, I've yet to see an Eve derivative mod/game get completed, and could be reaalyyyy awesome.
This is what i've been trying to say, only you did a better job.
So just do yourself the favour of making sure that it is 100% legal, or you'll end up in an unfortunate situation.

That would definitely be illegal, you need to make your own media.
I once contacted them to see if i could use screenshots, or part of screenshots for media, but they didn't allow that either.
you could ask them if you could go out and make a tshirt with a megathron and say no. just do it.

There's a significant difference IMO. Especially since software is rarely meant for personal use, and is usually exposed to the world. EVE is CCP's property, so unless you have permission, it's considered stealing.

(meh, screw updating the first page over and over)
right now im working on getting shaders working properly so that when u look at these ships that look just the same :P
also working on getting everything optimized so that we can get a few 100 BS on screen at once w/o major lag cause currently just 50 roids slows down my system considerably....and that dont happen in actual EVE so it my code problem

I BRING THEE BACK FROM THE DEAD!
i searched many pages back to find this old thread to remind you all that this is NOT dead and for a little update (FINALLY :P)
to sum up what it is, i found some stuff, figured some things out, have yet to figure others out....but in the end i might be able to re-create Jita by the end of June
including stations, planets, and the background (Lag and scams not included srry :P)
if not itll be some generic EVE-ish system with random planets and belts that in no way look like they are in the orbits of Jita's corresponding celestial objects, BUT itll be progress towards making "maps" thatll be much like the famous and popular systems of New Eden \o/
PS...once i get the backgrounds working like i want ill have screen shots for u cuz atm its just a crappy place holder POS (the bad kind) thing i threw together and/or a blank white background

Either start with a mothership / station.
You get miners to gather resources for you.
NPC stations could be like outposts, or places you could get extra resources from.
This sounds like a great idea and I wish you the best of luck!

the re-creation of Jita is getting rly close...
problem is that ships cant actually do anything yet 
maybe by summer's end ill have those ships flying around using a physics system "kinda" similar to EVE's....maybe ill even have warping working by then :P

wow , cant wait to try this 1 out , keep the updates and the good work comming , also , can we get a sneak peak of the work you have done , a screenie of somesorts of the jita place =)
hell i cant wait 4 this 1 to arrive.

ya, from the looks of it ill be able to pull the entire static data from EVE to recreate the whole universe 
ill probably have you able to use spacebar to zoom out to the solar system level and from there u can zoom out further to constellation and region maps and even the universe :P
man it'd be awesome if we could get CCP to approve this and help by getting Aura to do the announcement

im still alive and still aiming to recreate Jita (go make sure u thank the maker of EVEAI in the EVE tech forum :P)
add to stop development for a bit but i should be able to get back at it soon
also i think i have found a way to use the shaders directly from EVE :P
