Edited by: Taipan Leviathan on 12/03/2009 15:34:26 Hi there,
Ive been probing since the new exspansion and found a couple of wormholes and other stuff. So im pretty sure i know how it works.
I have a problem tough, I found a sansha's vigil site but the scan strenght percentage wont go past 90%. I have 6 probes at 0.25 AU all locked on to it (not to close so they fuse) but i still dont get 100%.
Heres a screenshot of what i mean: Weird. (You can just see the yellow dot in the middle)
As you cans ee they say the distance to the supposed location is more then 3 au while my probes are all on 0.25 au, How can they scan it then?
Any help about getting to this site would be nice.
Thanks in advanced.
P.S. (ima upload a higher quality picture)

I ran into a similar situation last night. The distance, I discovered, is the distance from your ship when you have more than one probe out - so it will not change unless you move the ship.
Can't view your image at work, but make sure you have a good geometric distribution around the site - I actually had to back some probes away from the grav site I was working on last night.

Edited by: CaptianBlack on 12/03/2009 17:08:14 had the same sort of thing..
got the range down to 0.072a/u to 7,000,000km with 4 probes all overlapping, even put all 4 probes in the center & all probes gave 100% but no warp to point... borked or not.. who knows.. but i'd say yes..

get more scan strength, or range them out, back them off and try again, i had to do this once or twice just arranging my pattern slightly differently and moving them back in, also i havent had to use 0.25 au yet i have been able to get 100% on 0.5 on everything so far (8 probes, rigged buzzard, sisters launcher)

stacking the probes up like that wont help you have to "triangulate" the object, meaning getting bearings and ranges from different points in space also space is 3d try having probes above and below also using overlap on the probes bubbles to create an overlap effect, if i wasnt at work id make a diagram of this

Stil doesnt explain why mine didnt show up,
I used 6 probes in variousl locations (far and close) but it didnt go above 93%.
Annyways lets hope its just a 1 time bug.
Also this is a post i made somwehere else that might be informative:
Originally by: Taipan Leviathan Edited by: Taipan Leviathan on 12/03/2009 13:49:51 Ok first of all you have to know that probes can only dictate range. (they do not know angles) The angles get calculated by your ships computer later.
Number of probes:
1: When you launch 1 probe it only knows at what range the WH is from the probe.
2: With 2 probes next to eachother it knows 2 ranges and the distance from one probe to another, with this info you can calculate the circle (red ring) of where the WH is likely to be.(meaning the WH is somewhere on the red ring)
3: With 3 probes the circle gets taken out and all that remains are 2 points where the WH might be that where previously on the circle.
4: With 4 probes it can scan out if one of the 2 points actually has something in it.
After this you just move all the Probees towards the dot and lower their scan range (Lower range means higher strength)
WARNING: ALWAYS HAVE THE PROBES AT LEAST HALF THEIR BUBBLE SEIZE AWAY FROM EACHOTHER, IF NOT THEY WILL BE FUSED TOGETHER AS ONE PROBE. PS. WH means WormHole.
Hope this helps, Feel free to mail or convo me.

I don't thisnk this is a bug. I've read that only the best 4 probes are used to determine strength. Also the angles matter - the shorthand of that is its better to surround the target in a tetrahedron shape to get the final few percent on hard targets.
but it is correct that you can get the probes too close to each other, once all 4 probes are close to planer or worse linear, precision starts to drop. My goal is to try to just barely overlap the bubbles on the other probes. Note: on some easier sites you can get away with less than perfect positions and some sites can get to 100% at 1 au range.
I had a 100% on strength, because I was close with short range bubbles, but still had a circle because only 2 probes were finding it.

I've had the same issue.
Had a grav site down to a red ring with 2 0.25au probes.
Wherever I added another probe it made the results worse.
Well probes have expired now...

I was trying to track down a radar site earlier which also just wouldn't lock, eventually got it by going from 6 to 4 probes. Needed some ridiculously careful placement too, not easy with the stupid camera :(

work on you skills also 4 probes is enough to scan but more works much better and easier i scanned 7 plexes within an hour last night
This. You wanna back your probes out a bit because the yellow dot isn't precisely placed. If all your probes are to one side of the actual position of the site you'll never be able to get to 100%

So, the site will be "on" the red ring, not "inside" it? im still kinda lost on the red ring and red sphere i get sometimes

Whats the story with the Deep space probes and Gas Clouds?
When I use mine with 256/128 AU range I sometimes get No Scan Results or some such message, and other times I get no message, just an empty list?
Can someone help me? I've been scanning down plexes for a while but finally talked myself into Astrometrics V with the supposedly greater abundance of Gas Clouds for Drug Manaufacturing - but haven't found diddly-squat yet.
Any help appreciated.

Your probes are just poorly placed.
1. You never need more than 4 probes; it just takes your best 4.
2. You want to make sure that every angle formed by each pair of probes and the site (that is, the angle between Probe A - Target - Probe B) is always greater than 90¦. The best geometry, as mentioned, is the tetrahedron (triangular pyramid), as it gives the greatest margin of error for inexact probe placement. In theory a four-pointed cross works, if it's exactly coplanar with the site and if it has perfect 90¦ angles, but that would be nearly impossible.

Empty result list means there were results but they didn't match your filters. No Scan Results means no results at all, matching or otherwise.

Found a wh from Hisec to Razor owned 0.0
Annyways for the camera issue, You can click the probe names to zoom in on the probes. (like the green text)

Also you can right click and drag the entire map around under your "camera" ... i don't really have any camera issues not sure what the problem is some people are having. |
