I use a cookie cutter Rifter setup. I'm wondering what ammo type I should use. Is it viable to think that if I'm against another Rifter, a Gallente frig, or an Amarr frig, they're sure to be armor tanking and I can go for Fusion S? Fusion S makes me lose about 4 DPS compared to EMP S, but I also gain some optimal and since I'm always a little out of optimal because of lack of agility when orbiting, I think it's definitely worth it. Also, when facing Caldari (a Merlin or something), I noticed that it tanks Phased Plasma S less well then EMP S, but again, I lose 4 DPS for just barely more range. Any thoughts?

i've stopped wondering about these things when it comes to autocannons. unless you are _sure_ the enemy tanks a lot less of a damage type (e.g. stain: sansha farmers, armor tanking em/thm only) just go for the highest dps in the name of rep fleet emp s. armor-em/shield-expl nerf did help a bit
if we had ammo swap times similar to lasers, then maybe i'd start pondering again but until then... *shrug* - putting the gist back into logistics |

against blasters; fit to do decent damage at 7km against lasers; don't try if it's a Punisher against anything else; RF EMP
This is assuming equal skills etc.

Hmm, "don't try if it's a Punisher?" Why not? And seriously, against another Rifter, Fusion S seems much better according to stats. Plus I'm pretty sure NOONE explosive hardens a Rifter. But in general, yeah, I plan to go with highest DPS. Just wondering for those few specific cases because people generally don't have very varied fits with frigs.

Barrage is a good ammo to pack if you expect to come up against blasters and other Rifters. Using the falloff bonus to be able to lay down decent damage at 7km+ is a good way to take out Rifters that go with cookie cutter fits that use RF EMP, and of course at that range blasters suck.
I find that RF Phased Plasma is a good alternative ammo to use against Caldari and Ammar. The other ammo types have niche uses, mostly in missions.

A Punisher will have a massive tank and their lasers have a much higher optimal than autos and better damage as well. A decent Punisher will eat a decent Rifter if the Rifter keeps attacking.

Carry two types of ammo.
Republic fleet EMP - Use against shield tanking ships, and battle cruiser size up.
Use Barrage for everything else, and as for a punisher vs a rifter? Lol. An AC punisher might stand a chance, but a lazer punisher is a joke. Just get in between their optimals and laugh when your pounding them into structure while at 50%+ shield.
Battle tested and proven.

Republic Fleet Fusion S against other Rifters. Republic Fleet EMP S against everything else.
Works well for me.

Um, what?
Oh and btw, new dilemna: web or cap booster for that last mid slot on the Rifter? IE: is the web effective DPS boost worth not being able to perma run my repper?

Your choice, but if you don't have a webber it is the other guy who controls the engagement. If he has webs and you don't you have no option to try to escape if it goes pear-shaped, and no matter how many cap charges you have you will run out eventually and you will die.
I have had one such engagement. I was 1v1 against a can flipping Rifter. I had the webber and Barrage ammo, he had cap charges, a NOS and RF EMP ammo. I got the scram and web on and orbited at 7000m. I was out of NOS range and over his falloff, while I just chewed him up in my falloff. His cap charges ran out and he was dead meat. At the time I was tanking with 200mm plate and SAR II and he didn't even get me past 50% shield.
Barrage is your friend :)

Hmm ok. I was talking more tracking wise than range wise. So with EMP S or sthing, is the webber going to make me miss much less?

Edited by: Princess Anime on 15/03/2009 18:37:10 In my experience a cap-injected / active tanked setup works best against larger targets, such as mining battlecruisers or battleships.
Against another Rifter or a Punisher a 400mm plated setup works much better and gives you some cover against afterburner setups, since you now have a web.
And oh, to be honest I never had any problem tracking targets inside my falloff while in a Rifter, only cases I can see that really being a problem would be against an afterburning Interceptor (lol).
