I asked in the help channel today about if it's possible to be a low sec pirate and still be able to be a high sec mission runner on one character. I got two answers: - Mission run in low sec + be a pirate in low sec. - Make an ALT.
I only have about 50 million ISK on my main character at the moment, but high skill points [9.5 million]. If I choose to mission run in low sec all the time, I'm at risk of just about losing most of that, but at the same time I get to pirate when I want. On the other hand, if I make an alt, which seems safe and easy. . . I lose out on skilling on my main. Not cool, since there's always something to improve on in this game.
I planned on just pirating in frigates when I wanted too. I'm just afraid of losing my standing and then getting ganked in low sec and basically, well, getting lost in a circle of death and no income.
Thoughts?

A serious suggestion, if it is feasible would be to run two accounts. --------------------------------------

If you have access to 0.0 ratting or run L4 combat missions, and limit the amount of piracy killing you do in low-sec, it is possible to keep your security status from dropping too far. You would have to spend considerably more time mining/ratting than pirating to maintain your security status.
On the plus side, their is that nice surprise factor for those that assume that just because you're not yellow or red on their overview....

Quite a few manage to pirate and maintain a decent security status, some rat a bit or mission and other just hunt flashies.
Doing missions in lowsec works too quite well, you just have to be careful.

I would make an alt. If you can afford the monthly fee, I would set up the mission runner on a second account for six months, then move that character back to your main account. With the new M10 system, you should be able to make a mission runner capable of doing well on level 3 missions. At about 6 million SP, you could round out a reasonable (but not great) Cruiser/BC pilot. Even after you suspend the second account you can always send the mission runner "back to school" for further training (at $20 per transfer of course)
It's probably reasonable to expect 5-7 million/mission after salvage and sales. That ought to keep your pirate in Frigates.
I did this to create a FW pilot and was happy with the process.

I pirate on my main. This is my only alt, and she has ~830k SP and is on the same account on my main. I only use her to haul Frigates and Cruisers to lowsec and lewtz back to hisec. Up until now, I've been keeping myself afloat by buying a GTC every 2 or 3 months. It works out to about the same cost as a mission runner alt (irl cost), and I get 500m-650m to last me 2 months. Pleeeeenty of ISK if you flying T1, and zero effort.

Thank you guys for your feedback, unfortunately a second account is out of the question for me [you don't make too much money being an RA in college]. :-(

It is tough breaking even if your only profession is pirating in lowsec. That may have changed though with Apocrypha moving BS rat spawns to lowsec belts. If you only want to pirate in frigates, say normal T2 mods on T1 frigate hull, then that ship will cost you around 5 mill isk total. Get lucky on a couple of loot drops from fights and add in a BS rat here and there then its easy enough to stay afloat.
But your question was whether or not you could highsec mission run and lowsec pirate. Answer is yes. All you have to do is either only engage flashy reds or let the people attack you first. No sec status loss to hurt your mission running ability.

Hey guys, give the OP a break. When I had 5 M SP, I thought I was King of the Universe. Heck, I still think I am, but no one seems to notice.
I like the second account route, but if you lack funds you might consider mining in an Osprey with an alt on the same account. It would take relatively few skills (we're not talking Hulk here) and would provide decent income for the time spent. It would also be easy to get an alt up to L II missions without much pain.
With the new training system in place, you should hit the 1.6 M sp break pretty quick - or so I'm lead to believe. This wouldn't take too much training away from your main and would pay dividends in the long run.
Good luck in whatever you do.
